Problms with inverter, power seats and ride height

Hi All, We are now having a problem with the inverter. The green light for the inverter will not turn off when we are disconnected from the shore power. When we are connected to shore power the light goes off. It is a Xantrex monitor unit. Any ideas as to what is wrong? There is also no heat or massage from the power seats. The batteries were changed. Does anyone know the maker of the seats? We also need help with the ride height adjustment. We are bottoming out again after having our tires changed and aligned. We are at a repair shop that suggest wheels on the rear to prevent the bottoming out. The idea sounds great but I think we will have problems with backing out and moving around things. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in advance.

PS Our steps were intermitant. The problem was a sticking spring on the door.

There is probably a tag sewn into one of the seams on your seat somewhere. You will probably find an in-line fuse holder somewhere under the seat. Maybe more than one fuse. I assume that other functions of your seat are working, like height and position.

In our coach the inverter is manually controlled at the Xantrex monitor unit. A click of the left button toggles it on or off, as indicated by the green light. If we connect to shore power while the inverter is on, the inverter goes on stand-by and the green light blinks. When shore power is disconnected, the inverter takes over and the green light ceases blinking and stays on steadily.

Having the tires changed and alignment has not a lot to do with bottom out. There have been hundreds of posts addressing ride height on this forum. First things first.... as they say and with that the ride height issues should of been fixed first. This reminds me of the shop that was advertising the alignment could be done on the parking pad at the RV park.
You wrote ...we are at a repair shop that suggest wheels on the rear to prevent bottoming out ? I have read this a couple of times and are somewhat confused trying to understand. Is there a little more you could tell us ? I did get one flash on this and I hope it's not so.

Hi Al Thanks for the inputs. Yes I kept thinking about the wheels in the back of the RV. I don't think that the mechanic understands the RV. He says that the ride height can not be adjusted any higher in the back, and the coach is riding low. The front makes the back end low and therefor attaching wheels on a bar, I think he said a bar, in the back will prevent the coach from hitting the bottom. I am beginning to think that he does not understand the ride height adjustment. Wheels on a trailer would work, but this is an expensive RV! We brought the coach in because he said he could fix the heating problem we are having. I asked about adjusting the ride height. He could only find the adjustment bar/lever(?) in the front. I called Carrier, who had done the adjustment prior and had the mechanic talk to Dave. Apparantly what Dave told him what to do didn't help the ride height. I will call Dave again and get the exact mesurement for this mechanic again. If it can be done as you say, it should not be a big thing, so I thought. I also thught he would be able to fix the seat heating and massage componet. He says he needs to know the maker so he can order parts. Sorry I have not been able to get online for awhile. Hi Nate,

Our inverter has been manually controlled too, but now I can not get the light to go off when traveling and when off shore power. I don,t want the batteries to drain. Is there a fuse that needs to be changed or are we having problems with the Xantax unit. Thanks for your help. Marianne

Marianne,

Just a shot in the dark but My Xantrex remote wasn't working properly and I had some other work I was going to do on my MH so I pulled the batteries completely out. When I put them back in all was well. You might try removing all power from the inverter for a small period of time and seeing if it resets it's self like mine did.

Hi Kevin,

How do you remove power from the inverter? Also the mechanic attacted a 2X3 corded box to the side of the battery. He said that would help to keep the battery in better shape. The box/card was on the side wall of the battery compartment.

Marianne,

One sure way to remove the power from the inverter is to disconnect the batteries. ( this maybe a bit of a overkill) If you try this be extremely careful! I would guess the 2 X 3 box you are talking about would be some kind of a desulfator. I question whether or not this could be causing a problem with the inverter.
I believe the problem on mine was caused by a voltage spike with the shore power.

I would suggest getting your Owners Manual out and check that you have the right screen display for inverter operation. I found the menu tree to be rather complex initially. Failing that, you can reboot the inverter by disconnecting it at the battery then reconnecting. I am unaware of any fuses between the control unit and the inverter. Having the unit on while traveling is not a problem as the alternator is keeping all batteries charged. When parked and disconnected, as when in storage, the inverter needs to be off.

Nate, Thanks for the info. Our problem was that the gen start was in the window. When we pushed the on/off switch the inverter would not go no or off because the window showed gen start. When we changed the window, pushed the on/off button the inverter went off. We now have 3 red c's in the window. Does that mean we need to check the fuse? Would appreciate any help.
