How Do You Get In The Trap Door To The Top Of The Motor

Thank you in advance everyone, but we have just spent three hours trying to get open the trap door behind the bed on our 2002 42' Affinity with two drivers side slides. We are trying to get to the top of the C12 to check valve adjustment. My regular repair place does not do this and I hired a Cat guy. He normally works on OTR trucks.
We took all the screws out of the trap door and it came loose. But there is a metal brace toward the bottom of the bed that keeps it from coming out. We took the top of the bed frame and can see it, but we stopped short of taking the bolts out of the metal frame as that is part of the slide out guide. There has to be an easy way to do this. Any suggestions are appreciated.
