Electric element

We have lost the hot water heating from our electric element. I have checked the boiler antifreeze and the level is good. Do the elements often go bad and how expensive are they to replace?

Dave, I am told that they rarely go bad. When my HydroHot quit working on the electric side it was the 120VAC high temp limit switch that had failed. It was a quick, easy and inexpensive fix. I suggest that you go to the Hydronic Heat Yahoo board and ask the question or search the data base.

There is a over temp sensor that prevents destroying the heating element, and they are know to fail. Call Aqua hot and they will send you the little gadget. You can also down load a service manual which will help if you desire.

DITTO. When my electric elements quit working, it was the 120VAC high limit switch. A small quarter-size diameter switch with a red reset button in the middle of it. I had to change the switch.

Have you tried the full system reset? Sometimes this can shake things loose?? Costs nothing to try this:)! Good luck,

Dave,

I have had my electric heating fail twice and both time I found a wirenut connecting the element to the 120 volt supply burnt off and the leads hanging. Cleaned things up and installed a new wire nut and it worked. I am not sure why the wirenut keep burning up as it appears to be a good connection.
BTW it was so difficult to get at the electric element connection box the way my HydroHot is situated that we (Roger Berke from the Hydronic Heat Group and I) finally cut the side out of the case and put it back with a hinge so I can get in there to work on the unit. What a difference.

Just for info...many auto parts stores have free loaner tools. Ask for the "oxygen sensor kit". It has deep sockets that are split, allowing the wires to spin free while removing/installing the sensors..
