Truck Stop Oil Changes

Yahoo Message Number: 67478
Hi everyone. We have our '98 Allure garaged outside of McAllen and it will be due for an oil change next time we fire it up. Last time, paid through the nose at a truck shop in McAllen even though I supplied the oil filter. Hoping to avoid that experience again!
Just outside of McAllen on 281, there are Flying J and Love's truck stops. I've never gotten an oil change at a truck stop but have heard of others doing this. I have the oil filter so all they need to do is change the filter and oil.
Any of you using either of these truck stops for oil changes and if so what did you pay and how do you go about it?

Thanks.

Remember it needs lubed as well, that is what adds to cost, but they all seem to be on the high side. I do it myself, more quality control and much cheaper.

I use an independent shop next to a truck stop. I buy my own oil and filters, oil and fuel. They charge $55.00 for oil and fuel filter change, oil change, and lube. I watch what they are doing, have the lube diagram handy so they miss nothing. I'm very happy with this, will not go back to a dealer. Have a diesel pusher.

Speedco centers do a good job at a more reasonable price.

Don,

I agree with Ray it is hard to beat Speedco. They have shops in San Antonio and Laredo. You might want to check them out. Remember they do not charge by the quart. They have a set price for services
I have used them and was very happy with their service in Oregon and California.

I don't recall any negative posts on Speedco. Fair prices and good service seems to be working for this company.

I could take it to the Speedco in San Antonio next trip. Do they require a reservation? Have overnight parking??

Thanks.

Dan,

I don't think they have any RV hook-ups. And the two I've been to the do not take reservations. They do however, process things quickly. I have called ahead several day to find out when they were the least busy. The most I've spent if 1 1/2 hours for the full service including oil analysis, antifreeze analysis and complete service.

I do pay a little extra to use CAT filter.

I used the San Antonio shop last summer. Great experience and I will go back. They do not take reservations. Fast service and they let you look over their shoulder. I watched in the grease pit and looked around under the coach and watched as they filled the oil and changed the filters.
