Oil-Lubricated Wheel Beaings 2007 Inspire

The Inspection and Maintenance Manual shows the "Typical Oil-Lubricated Wheel Bearings" which shows a different end cap.

under 4.:

Add the specified oil to the specified level.

What should be the specified oil?

And than

Drive Axle Hubs without Fill Holes
... add the specified amount of lubricant through the housing bowl or fill hole.

Where is the fill hole if it has no fill hole??

I can't remember the exact spec, but the wheel bearing oil for my coach is the same stuff you put into the rear end differntial (75/90?).

Checking your front hubs you should see a rubber plug. This is behind the hub cap. This is a fill an inspection hole. Many oy the front hub reservoirs have 2 circles , which is the guide line hi and low level. At cold level oil should be above the lower circle. Do not over fill. These front hubs are for the most part 99 % trouble free and a much better system then packing bearings with grease. Oil is available at NAPA.
The fill hole is the rear end also in the trade sometimes called the 3 ad member. The location is under the coach in rear center which you can ID by the drive shaft entering forward. On the back/side is a 1/2 inch square hole. Insert a 1/2 inch socket wrench to remove. These are installed very tight.and usually packed with dirt, clean so the wrench fits all the way in. After removing this plug, (coach must level) if gear oil runs out...it's to full, let it drain. Most techs put there little finger in the hole and if they touch fluid..leave it. The rear end contains nearly 5 gals of oil so if this level is touchable it has enough.
On both of these locations visual inspection will tell you if further work is needed, if leaks are observed.

I should add that coach service at better shops with a grease job will include inspection of the above.

Hermann, Lucas Hub Oil should do it. That's what I use. If you have a tag, buy 2 qt. bottles to be sure you have enough/extra. Most auto supply stores carry it.

My 2007 Inspire manual states the following:

Front wheel bearings: 80W-140 multi-grade gear lubricant (must meet Mil-L-2105D, MIL-PRF-210-E or API GL5 specifi cations).

Drive axle: Same as above. Fluid level is checked as Lee described.

P.S. I'm only talking about the front wheel bearings oil here. On my coach, the differential oil lubs the rear wheel bearings too.
