Just wondering if anyone has used one of these batteries and how did it perform?

Larry:

Not trying to be a wise guy but it probably works like any other 1500CCA 8D battery. It is manufactured by one of only a few companies that make most of the domestic batteries under numerous names. Imported batteries are becomming more common, even then for the given type (wet/AGM/gel) they are probably comparable.
What engine are you going to use this on? The engine manufacturer specifies a minimum CCA rating required to consistantly start their engine - this should be in the owners manual.
I've been using Sam's batteries for some time with good price versus performance. Every brand I have tried can start failing anytime after 3 years. Religious maintenance can extend this but in my experience there is no guarantee.

Thanks Bob

As I recall, my 370 ISL owner's manual calls for a 1500 CCA battery and this Catterpiller battery is the first 8D battery I've seen with 1500 CCAs. They want $284 for it and the Interstate 1400 CCA battery(the one I have now)is $182. Just trying to justify the extra 100 CCAs for an extra 100 bucks? Thanks again.

Think of the environment the Cat battery has to survive in. Lot and Lots of vibration, think D8 with cleated tracks running all day or, a scoop machine bouncing on big tires all day. Has to start machines in less then ideal conditions a lot as well. And one battery has to do the job in most machines, not two. Suspect the Cat battery is built to withstand harsh conditions our coach batteries will never see. For chassis/starter batteries possible a little overkill, if your coach is set up for two chassis batteries, then two 8D's of most any brand, as long as not two cheap, will last some time. Maintenance has more to do with long life. If you want to use only one battery, then you are looking at two very good batteries for the job.

My coach is set up for one 8D start battery and two 8D house batteies. I use the Lifeline AGMs for the house.

Larry,

I purchased my last 8D chassis battery at Sam's Club in Tennessee about 5 years ago, not sure how many CCA's but it turns my ISC 350 engine over as strong now as it did with the original battery. Cost back then was around $98.00 so I have definitely got my money's worth out of this battery and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another from Sam's club. Not sure of any added value of spending another $200 or more for a different battery.

Having sold a few batteries over the years, your cost will be in proportion to CCA (cold crank amps) starting battery . More CCA equals more "moo la". So then the next question is why pay more?

Your diesel engine needs to fire up quickly when you turn the key. Start/run happens from compression you have your best take off when you first turn the engine. That thin film of oil on the side of your cylinder wall is washed off quickly from continue cranking. That big boost comes from cold crank amps .

Owners in warm climate can fudge a little and get by not installing high CCA batteries. Here in KC I prefer the high CCA battery and thus pay more at replacement.
My own personal replacement window is 3 years, using the mfg. date on the battery.

Chime in, Ken Retired Cat Tech. Years ago Cat batterys were made by Delco but wait theres more! Delco did not make batterys they marketed them. My 2cents. I sold both Cat and non Cat batterys due to cost for my endusers both are good! Call the Cat dealer with the P/N and they can give you more info. if you wish, I like the newer Mtn. free 8D's.
