Towing help needed

ygrps-yiv-1099810036 v0003a* {} I have a 95 Intrigue 36'. I want to start pulling an enclosed trailer with a brake control. My coach is wired with the 7 pin plug so somewhere up front has to be the wires for a control. I presume they would be in the Trans shifter panel but what am I looking for colors or number on the wires

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Do you have your manuals? Look under the wiring numbers and you should find a numbered wire for brake control. If not, go to the back, open the wrapped up wiring bundle and find a not used wire. Get the number and see where the manuel says it goes up front. Some end under the dash, some in the electric fuse panel in the bay under the driver seat. I added gauges to the engine as well as brakes. Think I found and used every free wire to the back. Not an easy find. Experience on brake controls. Tried the best electric and was very disappointed in it. Changed to an air over electric that ties into the brake air line. It works great. Had my hitch on the coach beefed up as they are only rated #5000, some #7000. We tow a #10,000 cap. trailer. Leonard97' Magna 5418

Just because you have a 7 pin connector doesn't mean that it has 7 wires going to it!! You probably don't have a trailer brake wire, reverse light wire or constant hot wire either.

On our '05 Inspire the wire designated for the brakes was wried such that when the brakes were applied a full 12V was sent through that pin. Ruined a set of tires on the trailer before I cut and capped it. Smoky, smoky!
There is no telling whether yours is hot, when or why. CC was not consistent between our '05 Inspire and '00 Intrigue. ygrps-yiv-1285929019 v0003a* { } OK folks I like this guys answer. I have pulled a trailer(industrial type for like tractors) and did smoke the tires a time or 2. Just thought some of you people have pulled trailers and did hook up a brake controller . I will look for the manuals and see if there is a wire for the brakes up front. As for the guys who talked about not having the wires, I believe all the old coaches were wired for trailer with all wire in the plug working. I have a map of the wire matches the manual on what pin does what but did not know if the brake wire was up front or not. Guess I will look for my self anf figure this problem out.

Our 97' had the plug but was not wired for brakes. Makes sense to me since one needs a controller before it should be connected. Talked to the local Eugene company who stated CC called them to wire the coach for brakes when is was needed. Got the ideal, few leave the factory wired. Leonard97' Magna 5418

Battery Boost Solenoid.

The other day I had a dead battery and overused my Battery Boost. Now it doesn't work. Is there a fuse or the solenoid? Where would I find the solenoid.

In my coach and probably yours too the battery boost solenoid is in the inverter compartment which is in the upper part of the battery compartment. It has an access panel held on by two wing nuts which you loosen to remove. You can see the inverter more or less immediately behind the panel with the echo charger and its little green light probably mounted on the ceiling of the compartment with the battery boost solenoid mounted on the back wall. It's about the size of a small V8 juice can with two heavy duty terminals. As I recall one (probably on the left) has two heavy cables, one leading to the alternator and the other to the coach/start battery and the other (right terminal) two ( I think) slight smaller cables (maybe better termed heavy wires) going to the house/domestic battery bank and the house distribution. Not quite sure about this but it's on your wiring diagram. No fuse for the solenoid activation that I know of in that area. There are two in line fuses for the echo charger there.
Now the good part. The access panel is too small to really do anything but look in so if you really want to explore the compartment you have to remove the whole side - held on by 8 or 9, 3/8" head metal drive screws. Not too hard but not a nice area to work and a PIA. Best to check your wiring diagrams to see where the might be a fuse.

Not to be jerk but Just to be sure your aware of how these Boost Solenoid works is whenever your engine is running the solenoid is energized. So if it's not working then the house batteries are not charging off of the alternator when you driving down the road. What would damage the solenoid would be trying to start the coach with it energized and drawing to many amps across it. Your alternator problably outputs around 160 amps so it is probably rated at around 200 amps. If you let your chassis batteries charge a little before engaging the starter it will put less of a current draw across the soleniod, so if you can at least put a surface charge on the battery it would put less of a draw across it. It's like when you jump the battery on a car you should let your battery charge a little before trying to start it. If you alread knew all this, sorry.
My soleniod is in my electrical bay next to the charger / inverter on my coach but it is an old affinity. Good Luck! Kevin Burns

Your boost solenoid is in your start battery compartment. There are two ways to close it, the boost switch and the engine oil pressure switch, which happens when the engine is started. The boost connects the start system to the house so the alternator can charge house batts. The solenoid is continuous duty unit. Up in your house battery compartment there is a circuit breaker, 200 amp I think, controlling that power. I guess you could burn up the boost s but ....... Hope that helps.

I did try to start the coach with a dead battery using the boost switch. Now when I push it the light doesn't come on and after the earlier discussions on the boost solenoid I am thinking that I blew it! Thanks for the help I will locate it and see that it is working before taking the coach out of storage. My new d8 Napa battery cost around $200 and works great. I now know how not to use the battery boost switch.
