Winter trip Hydro Hot

I've just purchased a Country Coach and will be driving it back from Indianapolis to Seattle next week. Due to the cold weather expected, can/should I use the hydro-hot while driving. I have no idea how long the unit takes to heat the coach after stopping. I was also concerned if the hydro hot can be used when the slide are in and not extended.

Sguy (signing a name and coach model, year is helpful). As you drive the hydrohot circulating system is cycling coolant, which keeps it hot. Just set your house thermostat to gas/heat and temperature you wish. When you park, if you have shore power or are running the generator, flip the electric heat switch on. That will maintain hot water and some heat. If its really cold then you flip the diesel burner on. If on shore power, leave the electric heat switch on all night. That will prevent your Hydrohot bay and water bay from freezing.

Oops, its OK to use the Hydohot with slides in. In fact in cold weather keeping some in will make heating the coach easier.

Yes you need the hydro to keep the water in plumbing bay tanks from freezing. In cold windy weather we operate our hydro-hot with the slides in because of their poor insulation in the floors and roof. This really reduces the demand on the Hydro-hot. As the system is a closed system you can operate it in a sealed environment with out worry as it uses no oxygen.

On my coach with hydronic heating (Hurricane VS Hydrohot), with the burner OFF, all I have to do is turn the thermostat to "FURNACE" and set the desired temp and the coach stays nice and warm going down the road. There is an engine coolant loop that runs through the Hurricane heater to provide hot water and furnace heating while traveling. The heat source of course is the engine coolant, not the burner, nor electric. I never ran the Hurricane burner going down the road, and I'm not sure if this is a good idea? And with the gen running, I suppose you could run the electric elements too.

If you have the engine preheat with your hydro hot the engine will furnish the heat for you hydro hot system and you will be toasty.
