Help needed for towing

I hope this is OK - I am in some desperate need of help from you pros. :-) We just purchased a new/used 5th wheel, 30' Fleetwood Wilderness, and bringing it home it felt like something was bouncing around in there. We normally haul horse trailers, so we have a gooseneck hitch and bought the adapter to go from a GN to a 5th wheel. It also just got new Towmaster tires. Axles? I know there isn't much else that would cause it to bounce, but wondering where to start and if anyone has any experience??? We're getting ready to leave for our cross country, 6-9 month trip in a few weeks and am now baffled.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Corrine,

This group will probably be able to provide you some good info. But I'd also suggest you post a request for input on RV.net travel trailer section.

If you just had the tires/axles worked on, go back and ask them to take a test drive with you. Could be an out of balacne tire, alignment probem, out of round tire, etc. Also check tire PSI, as that can make a difference in how the trailers feel.

If it does not vibrate when sitting still it is a rotating item that is causing the vibration. Most likely item is the tires. Get the tie balance checked.

I would agree with Smitty that an easy check is tire pressure. If too hard your trailer will bounce alot as we have found on our trailer. A trailer will also handle very differently based on how the weight has been distributed. This is very noticeable in toy haulers but not as noticeable in a travel trailer.
