CAT engine error codes

Does anyone know how to access engine error codes? I got a engine warning light in my C-9 2006 Allure. I did not experience overheating or any loss in power. I pulled over and turned the engine off. After a few minutes I retarted the engine and the engine warning was gone.
I went to my silver leaf diagnostic and there was no error displayed.
I think there is a way to access engine codes through the cruise control set up but I don't remember how or if I am just imagining.
