Replacing hydraulic hose

Yahoo Message Number: 70182
I have a hose on the bottom of the hydraulic fluid resevoir that needs to be replaced. It is the outflow hose, not the drain hose. Two questions:
Will draining the resevoir and removing the hose require bleeding the system upon reinstallation?

Where can I buy a replacement hose?

Any advice on such a project is appreciated.

Thanks
Bob

The local NAPA will build custom hydraulic hoses, using the ends you supply. Hope it is that easy for you.

Which reservoir are you referring to, for the HWH system or the power steering and fan? With either one, when you remove the hose to replace it, you will loose fluid. Either system will self bleed.

This hyd tank has fittings welded to tank done by machine. Important....do not put any stress on the fitting to tank weld.
If that weld is cracked the tank will have to be replaced. Big bucks $$$$ You do not have to bleed the system and new fluid should be used.
Are you replacing the hose because it was to short and stiff over time developed a leak at the hose crimp? This can be corrected with your replacement hose.
Rather then write all about it, cell phone would be a better.
Having built many 100's of Hyd hose assemblies I can pretty much walk you through it. E-mail me... Boateral@... AL

Al,

I gotta ask, why can't a weld be repaired, just because it was done with a machine?

Mikee , what I was told some parts inside tank are heat sensitive, thus the machine weld. When the tech (idiot) broke the weld on my tank..... he was in a hurry and just not using good judgement. Hell, why use 2 wrenches when just one will work. Then shop tried to blame the leak on the tank weld...that was a total lie, and I'am sure that tank weld was not leaking. They backed down on that cause.
I do recall some conversation about sending the tank in for repair but was 2-4 weeks turnaround. They could ship a new one in couple of days.
I was throwing out a large bit of caution so they at least take some care as the weld is a weak point.
The hose replacement on my coach vibration allowed the connection to leak, the hose was to short. Take the hose off, so can get a new one made with the same and I'll build it for wiggle room. So, new tank, new custom hose, new fluid and still good to this day.
The hose IMHO was beautiful, as hyd hoses go.

Al,

Sounds like they were blowing more smoke. Machine welding or manually welded the temp is the same. Actually a manual weld can be done a little colder than a robotic weld. And when they told you a 2 week turn a round, it all sounds like smoke to me. Send me all the broken ones I will weld them and sell them back for 1/2 price.... Sounds like a good shop to stay away from.
