Entry steps just quit today.

Yahoo Message Number: 70670
We have been traveling for over a month and when we were leaving today the step stopped working after Rick hooked up the car. He went out to hook up and they went out and back in but when he came back in the step wouldn't come out. Its too hot right now to diagnos so I thought I would post to you great people and see if you have any ideas.

Thanks in advance.

Check to see if the nut on the button switch is tight. I added extra wire for ground. Have not had problem since.

Tammy,

I know you will get some knowledgably answers from the experts on this site. My coach has had this problem for several years. When it happens I drop the shield under the steps, loosen the three nuts holding the step motor put a screwdriver under the motor and separate it from the gears, I then push steps all the way out and retighten motor to gear. There is usually a bump when I disconnect motor indicating a binding in the gear/slides. This will last several months or longer then will happen again! Be sure to check your ground wire while you have the shied off. Hope this helps!

Ok, so I put a nut on the button in the doorway, no change. I checked the fuses and they are ok. It's been too hot to get under there and Rick's back is not good right now. If you have any other ideas let me know. I let you know when we look at the motor and gears.

Thanks

Tammy

Same problem on my Intrigue. The step manual has a trouble shooting section. My problem was simply corroded electrical connector. Take it apart and use electrical cleaner, also recheck ground wire. With a multi tester you can determine where the problem is using the manual. Good luck.

I'll second the "go to the manual" for trouble shooting procedure. I've had to replace the controller and a door switch. The only other thing that can malfunction is the motor. Also agree, check the connections. If you have the original controller, Kwikee uses a different door switch, NC rather than NO. You will need to either add an relay or change the switch if you change the controller.

We had the same problem with our 2006 Inspire which has a Kwikee step. . It ended up being the controller and in order to purchase the controller we had to purchase the motor as well because it came as a set.

Tammy,

I have a different model but when I have the exact same problem I spray the contacts with an Electrical Contact Cleaner and then it works great. Worth a try.

Well, Rick took the motor off and extended the step for the last couple days. While he was under there he checked the wires and tried a new ground, no change. We are on the way home now and will look at it there with all the tools available (we (he) forgot the ohm meter this trip). It's so much fun climbing in and out....
Thanks for all your help and once we figure out the problem I'll let you know.
