Spare Tire Mount

Hi Country Coach Owners,

In the Photos section titled Spare Tire Mount you will find 3 photos of the subject prototype mount.
Round 3/4 inch solid iron bars were used to form 2 triangles in the angled vertical position. Horizontal components were crafted with 1.5 inch 2X angle iron. Attachment was with the two bolts originally used to hang the rear mud flap. Two holes were drilled forward of the hitch safety chain holes for securing two of the round bars. The other 2 bars were bolted to the horizontal angle iron secured in the back with the mud flap bolts. A drop hitch is used for towing and one of the two angle irons that the tire sits on is bolted to the hitch. This provides some support for the hitch and prevents side motion for the mount. The angled bars secured through the holes behind the hitch safety holes provide most of the support for the tire mount. Both grade 2 (where welding was done) and grade 8 5/16 inch bolts were used. Six 5/16 inch quick disconnects were also used for faster assemble and disassemble. Break down takes under 10 minutes for engine fluid checking.
Road testing is next and the design will be firmed up.
