Burglar Alarm on 2000 Magna

Yahoo Message Number: 71019
I bought this 2000 magna last October and I've waited awhile to ask these questions until I had what I felt was more important things figured out. So here goes.
I think I have a burglar alarm on this coach. There is a small white box at floor level in the center of the 'dash' that appears to have a small speaker in it and a red led. I found a switch that apparently disables the alarm. The switch is marked 'Alarm' and is in the 'Normal' position as opposed to the 'Doors Only' position.
I've found a small booklet for a remote alarm system identified as Gargoyle CS-9702DC. Apparently there was a key fob at one time to control the alarm but the previous owner didn't have a key fob. Also from the wiring diagram in the booklet it appears that an interlock relay could be installed to let the alarm keep the engine starter from operating.
I think I want to disable the alarm and it may already be disabled but I have no idea if it is except I've never heard it go off.
Does anyone know how to make sure the alarm system is disabled? Has anyone removed the alarm system and do I have to do anything other than take the control unit out (i.e. bypass the relay controlling the starter if it is actually intalled)?

The box you are referring to is most likely the motion sensor. That is the reaso nit says doors only, that switch turns the motion sensor off. To disable the alarm just remove the fuse.

I am new at pulling a trailer behind my '06 Inspire. I have noticed that when the exhaust brake is activated my brake lights are activated which in turns activates the brakes on my trailer. My exhaust brake is set I think in latch mode (which I want) so the exhaust brake is activated when my foot comes off the throttle. I noticed this after a descent on I-17 between Phoenix and Flagstaff. I had no need to use the service brake as the exhaust brake handled the downgrade just fine. However, the trailer brake was getting a low signal that the brakes were active on my wireless brake controller.
Is there a way to by pass this by wiring the brake lights so that they do NOT come on whenever the exhaust brake is activated?

Thanks in advance,

Judy

You need to activate the trailer brakes by another method. One thing that worked for me when I pulled (overloaded) trailers behind a SUV was an inertial controller, that senses deceleration to activate the trailer brakes proportionally. The amount of braking is easily adjusted, and can be manually activated if necessary. Only requires one wire from the controller to the trailer.
U-Haul had a system on their hitches that would activate the brakes when the hitch was compressed, like slowing the tow vehicle. Have not seen those in ages, may be something about the design that does not work out.
I thought they were great, self adjusting as to braking effort, and provides a breakaway function.
A system that uses coach air brake pressure may be better, many like them.
If there is a better system I am sure you will find it with the group here, or possibly at Blue Ox or other trailer equipment manufacturer. Please report back so we can learn too.

You need to tap into the brake light wire at the air brake switch, install a diode in the wire leading away from the brake light switch to prevent the exhaust brake signal from reaching the brake controller or to prevent "back flow" of the exhaust brake signal. This way the trailer brake controller will not see the exhaust brake signal. Put the brake light controller wire on the cold side of the switch and install the diode on the wire going to the coach wire. A diode will only conduct current in one direction. If uncertain how to determine which way to install the diode, hook it up temporarily, try it, if it does not work reverse it. You have a 50 50 chance of getting it right the first time.

Thank you Mikee, that is the answer I am looking for! There is no way I can do this myself as I barely understood your explanation, so will take it to RV tech and see if he can figure it out. I just needed to know if it can be done.

You need to tap into the brake light wire at the air brake switch,

We have a similar alarm setup on our 1995.

I run with the doors only option selected.

The key fob is the only way to set our alarm that I am aware of.
When it sets the system will beep once. When it is disarmed the system will beep twice.
When set, a little red LED light will illuminate near the entry door assist handle on the outside of our coach.
We used the alarm system when we first owned the rig 9 years ago and had it sitting in an RV park 150 miles from home.
When the batteries died, the alarm began whooping and drove all the park occupants crazy.
We have never used it since, and it has never armed itself. So, you probably do not have to remove it unless you want that little motion sensor gone.

Thanks Mikee, I'm in southeastern Utah so don't think it would be worth my while. Smile emoticon I have a friend I will meet up with in July who did this to his Mountainaire so will get down on my knees and beg him.
