Portable satellite connection?

Yahoo Message Number: 71035
Does anyone know how to set up the outside cable TV connection to work with a portable satellite dish? Thanks

Larry,

On my coach the outside cable is routed to the Winegard amplifier switch. You would need to splice in at that point or install some type of cable A/B switch at that point if you want to continue using park cable.

Thanks Rob. I tried removing that wire from the amplifier and connecting it directly to the receiver with an HDMI cable connecting the receiver to the TV. That didn't work. I'm thinking that there must be a splitter somewhere between the reciever and the outside cable TV connection. The satellite recievers won't work if there's a splitter in front of it. I guess I need to chase down the splitter. Not sure if the distribtion box with the "AUX" and "ANT" buttons is part of the problem?

I forgot about the CC installed distribution box with AUX and ANT buttons. I eliminated that box several years ago.
I'm pretty sure the coax runs directly to the front of coach without going to a splitter before it reaches the distribution box. Try running a temporary cable from the outside cable connection to the inside near the distribution box and Winegard amp. Use an ohmmeter with one probe on that cable and the other probe to find where that cable terminates.

Larry,

You can split or combine signals if needed. You need something a little different than typical Radio Shack splitters. I've used these with no problem.

I ran a dedicated cable directly from the satellite receiver, behind the door jamb cover, into the cabinet to the right of the door as you enter, drilled through an unexpectedly hard floor to terminate just behind the front cap. Now well calked. No question of interference from existing wiring or other mysteries. I had an A-B switch to switch from the rooftop antenna or the exterior one, but the A-B switch got flakey, so I just screw in the proper antenna cable when I need it. It is rare I cannot get a signal from my roof top antenna, but in my existing place that is the case.
I tend to stay months when I move, so my arrangement is satisfactory. Your mileage may vary. (YMMV).

I have installed a radio shack A/B switch on the rear coax wire in the AV box of the coach.

"A" goes to my Cable TV connection on the AV switchbox.
"B" goes to another A/B switch that selects either the rooftop antenna or the rear portable antenna as the source for the Sat Receiver.

This works fine for a single LNB standard definition signal.
I can only use the rear coax for a sat dish or campground cable but not both at the same time.
