Fuel Feed Pump

Yahoo Message Number: 71095
My fuel feed pump leaks fuel for about a minute when I first start the engine and then stops. Has anyone ever had this problem before and should it be a major concern.

Thanks,
Dan

I think you're talking about the lift pump and yes, mine has done that and I changed the seal. A year later, it started leaking again and I changed the seal again. That was 4 months ago and it's still holding.
I think anytime you have raw fuel dripping on the starter (my case), it could be dangerous if it ever ignited.

Dan,

The lift pumps on the Cummins is a well documented problem since ULSD fuel was introduced a few years ago.
I replaced the gasket on mine about 3 years ago to stop a leak. It lasted for 2 1/2 years and started leaking again. I went back to Cummins for another gasket, and they said the gaskets were no longer available and had to replace the entire lift pump assembly at about $300.

The new lift pump is suppose to be less prone to leaks.
I would go ahead and get that pump replaced. The fuel leaking on hot engine parts could result in a fire.
