Sooty exhaust stack on 32ft 2000 Intrigue, cumins 350

Newbie Owner of a 32 ft Intrigue, 2000. Sorry, don't have the coach numbers at hand. This is my first diesel coach (or diesel anything else for that matter) The unit has about 65,000 miles on it and has been carefuly cared for (looks better than new). My question. While the rig runs great, getting about 8/9 mpg towing a Jeep Grand Cherokee and running around 1500 rpm/55 mph, the exhaust stack is quite black. There doesn't seem to be any black smoke emitted and I wonder if this is normal or should I consider some checking into the air system (filters are new) and turbo? Unless you have a 2007 or the newer diesels with the particle filter and use the low sulfur diesel since

before it was introduced you will have soot on the inside of your exhaust pipe. All diesels of the classic

variety are sooty when first fired up, or when trying to climb grades at higher altitudes at low rpms

when the turbo hasn't spooled up and the transmission hasn't shifted down yet. 5500 to 6000 ft and up

is where mine really starts to belch black soot if the the engine rpms are blow 1500, TWI 2004 Intrigue
11731 ISL 400.
