HWH Slide Problem

I have a 2003 Intrigue 40' Suite Sensation with a galley and bedroom HWH slide. The galley slide is a four cylinder train drive extension and the bedroom has a single cylinder extension. The bedroom slide has always worked flawlessly, however in the almost seven years that I have owned the coach, the galley slide has been somewhat of a mystery. The slide has never failed me but sometimes has gotten my heart pumping faster. The situation is that when I depress the activation button, the slide will open with the pump turning off and on perhaps several times during the extension. Sometimes, it extends perfectly normal with no cycling of the pump. Yesterday though, the pump cycled several times and then quit with the slide extended only about two thirds of the way out. I then retracted it with similar intermittent pump operation and retried only to have the same result as the first opening try. It then came in again with the intermittent pump operation. I then had my wife depress the bedroom slide activation button at the same time as I depressed the galley slide activation button, and the galley slide worked flawlessly. Retracting it depressing both slide activation switches worked flawlessly as well. The galley slide is not racked or twisted and has a uniform margin on all four sides when viewed from the exterior. I have exchanged information with HWH who suggested a bad high pressure switch on the synchronizing cylinder. The technician gave a troubleshooting procedure, however there are four of these switches and checking to see which switch is closed preventing the pump from running seems fruitless as the switch must open very fast as the pump cycles off and on within a split second or so. There is no physical way I would have time to check a switch with a multimeter. No doubt that the technician knows these systems, but the only way I personally would know how to address this would be to replace all four switches at the same time, which certainly seems a waste. Has anyone experienced anything as I describe and if so, how did you resolve it? Also, is there anything else that could be causing this sort of strange behavior? Thanks in advance for your help!

Rick,

I would guess that you have a bad ground to the relays that control the slide. You should have two relays for each slide. One is for extend and the other for retract. I would guess that the relays are located in the service bay in the right rear of your coach. You could also be experiencing an intermittent failure of one or more of those relays.

I suggest that you ensure the ground quality and test.

I had that same problem with the gally slide (on/off hyd motor), but it did that only when the engine wasn't running. Once I figured out that I needed to start the engine, I never had the problem again. I think this symptom is an early indication that your engine battery is getting weak. I have since changed out my engine battery.
