Zip Dee Awning Repair

The awning on the passenger side of my coach is difficult to extend and/or retract. There is a "clicking" noise coming from the right side where the lock assembly is located when you try to open or close the awning. The lock assembly on the right side will not lock into place (for travel mode) and you have to manually roll up the awning on the right side. I am guessing that the Z-lock assembly on that side is broke.
Has anyone experienced the same problem and if so, is it a difficult repair? I assume parts can still be purchased for the awning through the company. Any advice or suggestions will be truly appreciated! Thank you!

Contact ZIP-DEE. They have the parts kits and detailed instructions to fix your problem. I recently repaired a window awning and our patio awning. Good idea to have a helper when you do this.

It sounds like you might have a broken internal spring. I broke the slide topper/awning on the driver's side by hitting a tree (duh!) and fortunately Zip Dee was able to send me replacement arms, end caps, and spring mechanism along with detailed instructions for the installation. Winding the spring is the only tricky part and it shouldn't be attempted alone. You need someone to hold the awning body while you wind the spring using the awning arm for leverage. You have to be very careful not to let it slip from your grip while winding and you also have to be careful not to scratch the side of your coach during the process. Otherwise, it's a piece of cake. J

Hi Friend, I had the same Issue on the Main Awning, Turns out the Locking ends have a flat spring clip and Ours just got wore out. Each end is different. Google Zip Dee and they have a parts book on line also in my case a book came with the coach from Zip Dee. I orderd each end around 150.00 for both end end kits. Be very careful replacing the ends, The Main Awning tension spring must be unwound! Inst. for this and installation of the ends come with the end kits. I unwound the awning and did one end at a time and you must drill out the old pop rivits to remove the ends. The Kits come with new POP rivits. Use a marker to remove old ends and install the new ends the same way. Remember to rewind the Main Tension Spring acording to the Inst. I did not wind as much as I did not want the Awning to Fly up out of my hand and not to fight the spring pulling the awning down. Been over a year now and works great. Keep us posted! We need to replace the canvas and springs on the slide-out awning on our 2000 Intrigue. Zip Dee suggested George M. Sutton RV in Eugene. Has anyone used this facility or have a recommendation in the Eugene area? Thanks Howard
