US 101 above Fort Bragg to Canada

Yahoo Message Number: 72684
Good Afternoon all............

Would like to here all advisement as to the condition of Highway 101 from Fort Bragg California Northward to the Canadian Boarder. Things also like nice places to stay, places to avoid, grades, heavy curves, and anything else that comes to mind.
I have never been on that section and would like to try it in a few weeks. Appreciate any and all opinions.

Thanks Group!

Getting to Fort Bragg from 101 you have to take highway 20 west, Fort Bragg is not on 101, Do not go north on highway one. It's very crooked. Stay on 101.

We are based in Coos Bay/Charleston, Oregon area for the summer and tuna (albacore) fishing season. 101 from Langlois, OR to Newport is in excellent shape.
Just south of Bandon there is a wildlife petting zoo. Right now they have a leopard cub and 2 tiger cubs that come out to play with the visitors. Mill Casino and the Charleston Marina as well as Sunset Bay PaPark and Bastendorf Park out of Coos bay are all very nice places to stay. In addition, there is Midway RV Park on Cape Arago Highway and the marina park in Winchester Bay. Just out of Coos Bay on Cape Arago Highway is a botanical garden called Shore Acres. Right now it is roses and annuals, but in a few weeks the dahlias will be in full bloom and a real sight to see. They have all colors and varieties.
Out of Florence Oregon you will see the Sea Lion Caves and Newport has a great acquarium and other attractions. The Oregon coastal area is a real treasure trove if you take the time to explore.

Fort Bragg is on Hwy. 1 not 101, I live here. 101 is ok to the OR. Border Under no circumstances would I drive Hwy. 1 with anything over 36'. I have Done it but would not recommend it.

I haven't done 101 in Northern CA for a while but I remember some tight curves between Eureka and Myers Flats. Not bad if you have experience driving the coach but a little nerve racking when we were new to this.

Highway 101 in Northern California is slow going through the redwoods; lots of 25-35 mph sections. Once into Oregon the road is fine with a few short slow sections when the road runs right next to the ocean. The Marina RV Park in Winchester Bay is a good place to stay in Oregon. Stop off at the Cheese factory and the Air Museum in Tillamook. There are lots of Lewis and Clark history spots around the Astoria area. A good place to stay is Fort Stevens State Park. The Columbia River Maritime Museum in Astoria is also a great stop.
