slide top sealant

Yahoo Message Number: 73196
Spent about a week in the Pacific Northwest this last month and had lots of rain. (You could tell it was Summer though...the rain was warmer than it is in the Winter) Had some leaking from the top of a slide and figure it's time to reseal. Does anyone know the original type of sealant used or have a recommendation? Thanks for your help.

I have used both 3M 5200 (72 hr. cure) and Sikaflex (24 hr. cure) with very good results. They are both polyurethane based products which are extremely tenacious. Both have good adhesion and cohesion with some flexibility. You can purchase either one from a good marine supply retail source or online. Sikaflex cost is usually about 30% less than 3M. 3M also provides a 24 hr cure but, I have not personally tried it.
Scrape, clean and sand surfaces to provide for good "tooth" for the sealant. If available, air gun hosing is usefull especially if you suspect trapped moisture. I like to do a final wipe down with denatured alcohol just prior to application of the new sealant.
BTW, Do not attempt to use any silicone products. If silicone was ever applied to the surfaces it must be completely removed before resealing.
