Carefree awning over front door

Any suggestions on how to free up the awning over the front door? It does seem to have power since the red light dims on the switch when I try to extend the awning.

The motors in these awnings are know to fail due to water getting into the motor. Mine failed 3 years ago. The only way to free it up is to replace the motor.

the spring loaded arms on mine were frozen up with gunk so I had someone pull it out while I ran the switch. I could hear the more trying to run the roller (so it was not the motor). After cleaning up the arm hinges, the awning worked great. If you can't hear the motor running then it's probably the motor

The motor is likely frozen because of rust. The problem in replacing it is getting to the bolts that attach it to the side of the motor home. Take a good look at the way it attaches. If I remember correctly, I had to cut mine with a hack saw blade VERY carefully.

Do a search on old posts on that subject.

I had an 04 Allure with the same problem. Carefree failed to put a drain hole in the plastic case where the motor is attached. Mine was full of old rusty water and the motor was toast. After replacing the motor, difficult without removing the awning, but I did it, be sure to drill a drain hole in the bottom of the plastic cover.
