Home Theater DVD/CD/FM/AM

For those of you who are looking for an inexpensive but quality Home Theater system,I recently searched for and finally installed a system in my 1995 Magna that some might be interested in. My Goal was home theater 5.1 surround audio for my stock mono av system.

Selected the Sony DAV C770 unit with a passive subwoofer and dual speaker satellites. 500W system is more powerful than needed, but the base unit fits with a VHS and system switches in the stock AV cabinet.

The 3" high unit contains amplifier, DVD/CD player and radio in a small footprint.

Built a new faceplate for the AV cabinet with 3/4" plywood and black formica so looks like original except for unit placement cutouts.

Had to move my 12V CD Changer to join the sat receiver in the adjacent cabinet.

Sound is excellent by my standards. In that small space sounds as good as my tower speakers plus powered subwoofer at home. Really enjoy the "Tree beating the Car sequence" in the Harry Potter film.
Jazz CD's are great at nap time.

System cost $475, Speaker hangers $75, Plywood was $12, formica was scrap from a counter manufacturer. Not Bose Speakers but cost was 60% of the Bose speakers by themselves.
Also found that strong volume in the Coach does not equal loud noise outside the Coach when windows and door are closed. Thanks CC.

I do have a Sony quality issue, but assume it is just my unit.

I post this because my research found no posts on this topic.
Perhaps that is because I am the only one nuts enough to want try the project or, everyone else found a simpler solution.

we have the full CC/Bose/Everyone Else theater system in our Magna 6130, and now carry a full-time audio visual consultant to turn it on for us. Far too complicated for a mere mortal such as I.

Good for you! I have yet to figure out how to do more than turn on the TV. Been trying to figure out how to get the TV sound through the Bose or ceiling speakers. Got instructions from Country Coach, but cannot make it work.

I will ask my wife (who is the full time audio visual consultant) to send you some instructions she has written down. We can go to the moon, but can't get the radio turned on in the Coach!!!

Ree,

My Allure has a push bottom selector in the Audio Cabinet above the driver seat, with 3 positions. Off, Audio (Radio, CD, etc) and Video that routes the TV through the Theater system. If you don't have the switch in the Video position, the only TV sound is from the TV itself..

Paul,

Inorder to make the radio in the 2001 Magna work you need to use the home theater system. There is no way to play the radio otherwise. You turn the radio volume to as high as it will go ( you will not hear sound because there is no radio speaker) then turn on the Bose system and set it on tape, your radio will sound great. The only disadvantage is you need to turn on the inverter every time you drive and sometimes I forget to do that. You can change stations and functions from the buttons on the dash radio but the sound volume must be changed from the Bose remote. We purchased a second Bose remote ($75) so My wife can change the volume from her seat also.
