Genset Cooling Fixes - What CCI should have done!

Hi Folks,

Chuck Gauthier was correct (msg 5463) - CCI didn't provide the 277 sq. in. of air inlet cooling for the CD8000.
Here are some easy fixes.
1. Fig 2 in the installation instructions shows inlet air on the left side of the generator enclosure - not true. The inlet is a slit above the top of the control panel.

I opened up a second air inlet for alternator cooling by removing a piece of the front cover 0.75 in. further down on the cutout for the control panel, cut the foam on the back side of the panel at a 45 deg angle and then smeared the surface with RTV.
Note: The air outlet for the alternator is the smaller of the two rectangular outlets on the underside of the coach and just under the alternator left side.
2. For the diesel cooling outlet, first some foam insulation was covering the 3 x 12.75 in. outlet under the coach and was remove with an exacto knife; next the rubber splash guard used as an air flow deflector was moved to the front side of the attaching plate - this provided a 0.25 in. wider opening.
3. As for air inlet - there is none except for the 3 - 1.3 in. and 1 -
1 in. holes (3 for mounting bolt access and one for the oil drain) which give about 5 sq. in. at most.
Simple Solution: Open the side access door.
You can even place a piece of cardboard about 14 x 14 in. under the genset at the right side to separate the inlet air from the outlet air.
I'm planning on installing a hinged aluminum plate that swings down when the side access door is opened - but the cardboard will do for now.
One could make a grill per Fig 3 and 4 in the side access door using the grill material used over the radiators or do what Chuck did.
