I just bought a Jeep Grand Cherokee and am looking at a Supplemental Braking system. I am down to two: M&G and Air Force one. What are the votes out there?

I've had both and consider M&G to be the most dependable but both are great! Ted 2000 Affinity

I've had the M&G on my Unlimited JK for 4 years and am happy with it. It doesn't fit on all vehicles, so make sure it will work on yours. I had narrowed down my coices to the M&G and the Air Force One also. I talked to both companies at the FMCA Pomona show and decided on M&G because they installed it for free. I think they are both good braking systems.

I've used M&G 7 years on my Odessey and it continues to work as new. Sometimes you don't think it's working, but when you have to stand on the breaks hard or on steep grades when you finish, you can feel the warmth of the rotors. You never experience the towed vehicle collapsing the tow bar sending a jolt or bump through the drive train as with the delayed action of the brake pedal systems. We were driving toward Paducah Kentucky when a Toyato pick-up rolled in front of us killing the driver, who fell asleep at the wheel. From the point where his roof scuffed the highway in front of us until we stopped was less than 100 ft . It looked like he was going to roll under us as he went by he was so close. We were traveling 53 mph at the time on a rain slicked highway.on a slight upgrade. I had locked the breaks on both vehicles, upon further investigation. Thank heavens for tag axle brakes, and M&G.

I looked at both and bought the AF1 in no small part because M&G didn't make one for my Ford Focus. But therein lies an issue as the M&G is vehicle specific while the AF1 is not and the AF1 is therefore easier to move if you change toads.

Al, we have one on our '00 GC. Have towed the Jeep over 100,000 miles and have 145,000+ showing. Never a problem, but as has been said, make sure it will fit your specific model. I also have the emergency break away but I probably wouldn't install it again.

I bought AF1 due to M&G not having adapter for Saturn Vue, Very happy. I have 40,000 miles on mine and works great.

Here's a story about Texas and the way Texans do things a little different. You aren't required to have an auxiliary breaking system when towing, but you are required to have have a break away system to bring the car to a total STOP when separated from the tow vehicle! Why just have a break away system when an supplementary breaking system is the major component? Only in Texas!

I've enjoyed the AF1 for 3 years. Although both the M&G and AF1 are air operated, I bought the AF1 for two reasons: 1) it can be moved to any vehicle and 2) it came standard with a breakaway.

Greetings,

We purchased the Air Force One braking system for our 07 Jeep Liberty in 2008. Did not have any issues with it. Was satisfied with it enough that we removed it from the 07 Jeep Liberty when we purchased our new 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee and had it re-installed into our new 2011 Grand. The company stands behind its products and I have had very positive experiences with their customer service.

A week or so ago, I posted asking people for a vote on which braking system, M&G or Air Force One, was the best choice. Your votes, narrowly, were in favor of M&G. But after talking to M&G, I decided on Air force One. The installation of M&G on a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee is difficult. The Master cylinder has to be rotated 180 degrees, brake lines re-routed, and they say they do not recommend an installer that has not previously done one. That scared me. I believe I can install the Air Force One myself. Plus Air Force One comes with a Breakaway. The price of both, with breakaway, including installation, was about the same, so if I can install Air Force One myself I will save money.
