Towing a Ford Fusion

I helped a friend set up a 2011 Ford Fusion to tow behind his 1999 Intrigue. Everything (baseplate, lights and SMI braking) works well except the battery goes down during a day of towing. The owner's manual does not identify a fuse that needs to be removed. Anyone successfully towing a Fusion without pulling a fuse? If there is a fuse that needs to be removed, which one?

Don,

I'm not sure if it would be the same but my 2010 Ford Escape does not run the battery down. I make sure to turn the key as far to the left as possible when I place the transmission in Neutral (still unable to remove the key). I think some people only turn it back one click which shuts off the engine but leaves power on for radio and other devices.

Don,

I previously towed a Ford Focus and had the same problem. This past Spring, I wired up my new 2011 Escape using a six-wire intervehicle cable. The six wire cable gave me an available conductor to pull brake system power from the coach rather than using the towed's battery. It works great.

I am looking for feedback from anyone towing a Ford Fusion. Do you have any problems with the battery discharging while towing? Do you pull any fuses before towing? Any other issues while towing?
