CC's Latest on Coolants

After all the discussion about engine coolants, we asked Country Coach what might be in our coach. The first answer was "Propylene Glycol, specifically Fleetguard ES".

Upon checking the Fleetguard product descriptions for both their propylene glycol and ethylene glycol, we found both of these are supposed to be BLUE in color. The antifreeze in our 2002 Allure is definitely GREEN.

Further discussion with the CC Techs (via e-mail, so it's in writing!) brought forth the information that CC changed types of coolant during the calendar year 2001 (which encompasses some of both 2001 and 2002 model year coaches. The prior coolant is ethylene glycol, specifically Prestone with silicates for diesels - and it is GREEN. The newer coolant is Fleetguard ES Polypropylene Glycol, which is BLUE.

CC cannot say for sure which type of coolant was installed in specific coaches during that building period. However, based on their latest information, if your coolant is green it is most likely ethylene glycol, and if it is blue it is likely propylene glycol. It is not good to mix the two types.

If you have further questions about what type of coolant may be in your coach (particularly if yours is "on the 2001-2002 bubble"), please contact the CC Techs.

The earlier disscussions dealing with Cummins Compleat coolant were great. It got me reading up more on this topic. After communication with the tech folks at Fleetguard.com, (great info and reading at this site), I have decided to switch over to this product.
I have a '98 Allure (50259). Question for anyone who has changed out coolant on their coach, 1)How many gallons of coolant is in the radiator system? Left message for CC at their service center last Friday, but have not heard back.

Hi Ed,

The CCI manual says 12.5 gal.

I made 10 gal as that is what drained out.

I have a 2005 Magna with a Cat C-13. I want to buy some coolant to carry with me just for "topping off" if necessary. The coolant in the system is green in color and I cannot find green coolant that meets the Cat specifications. Could someone suggest a brand or type of coolant I could use?

Cat has their own coolants, or you can use some of Cummins various ES Complete formulas. Friend of Mine had a 2008 founders edition CC with a C-9 with green coolant. Cat made him change, but I don't know the details.

CC told me that all coaches came with the Cummins coolant as a matter of convenience and better price due to the volume. My C-9 came with ES Complete and it meets all manufacture's specifications.
