Door not sealing tight

Yahoo Message Number: 76843
My door latch does not hold tight enough and wind noise and rattling occur, there is a single non-adjustable latch pin on the frame; looks like the previous owner had the same problem and just wound some electrical tape around it and that is now wearing out. This must be adjustable, perhaps from the catch in the door itself, any clues? Michael Slater

On my 06 Allure that single latch pin you described is a bolt. Look at the head and it should have 6 sides on it. I put a socket on mine loosened it a couple of turns and repositioned it then tightened it up.
I also have electrical taped on it to keep it fron squeeking.

Contact Kevin Waite, he has access to replacement bolts.

Here is a cut and paste of an ealier post on what worked for us, with the input coming from this board's members that had been down this path ahead of us:)! Best of luck,

------------Copy start ------------ I had wind noise on our 04 Allure too. Using the search on this board, I read all that I could read, and tried several things. The RV Dealer did addjust the door, as well as the door latch (the 2nd catch of the latch) to be very tight (so tight, we slam the door). This took care of 75% of our noise. The final 25%, was with weather stripping/molding (any hardware store, I think I used the 1/2" wide, by 7/16" thick along the top 1/3 of the door. I then used 1/2 by 3/16 for the next 1/3 of the door. I did nothing along the bottom 1/3 of the door. I placed the molding in the door jamb itself. Others have attached it to the door.
I think the drag on the door at speed, actually sucks the top of the door out a bit from the jamb. This extra molding, made a difference for us.

This noisy door issue is an interesting 'aggravation.'
Having had the problem too and having talked to some CC techs, here are two other considerations.

  • Some doors have a double latch mechanism, so when you hit the road you have to close the door with some gusto!
  • The newer coaches with a single windshield pane use a floating mount set-up to position the glass. There is a good chance that in those coaches, a squeaking door is actually the windshield glass squeaking on the mounts and there is nothing you can do! I think that is my squeak source.
