Insurance Coverage

Yahoo Message Number: 77050
This is a confusing subject to me and I would like to see how others handle this situation.
I was just told by an insurance Company (Progressive) that "even though I have a policy with them on a towed vehicle"( the motor home is no problem), they may deny a claim, should I have a claim on the "toad".
The reason given is; the "toad" needs to be "registered in the state that it is kept in the majority of 6 months", and may need multiple registrations per year in different states.
I have several vehicles, all registered in one state, that I may tow to a different state from time to time depending on our activities. A vehicle my be left temporary at one of several states for a period of a month or two, or a year or longer but ultimately towed else ware.
At the present time I have no home base, as we just sold it, but I still own another property in the same area that is use for storage at the moment.

Any input, suggestions, or thoughts would be appreciated.

Dan,

I have had very very few accidents (knock on wood), but I have never been asked by my insurance company, where is this car stored at, or driven from. If that question is asked, my response would be where I have it registered at. I would tell tell them you are on your way back to the location where it is registered at, on vacation and going here or there.
IMHO, you are paying for coverage in case something happens, what took places days or months ago have nothing what to do with what happened that would cause them to become involved.

We changed to National Interstate Insurance. They never asked that question. They cater to full timers. Never had a claim but so far happy with the rates. They cover both the RV and the toad.

I would check with one of the companies that specializes in RV coverage.
I use Miller Insurance 503-636-6347.
They can answer your questions and shop many companies for the best rate for your situation.
They saved me ~$200 a year while staying with National interstate. Just change broker.

We've had National Interstate since 2005. Rates have stay steady and they now have Coach Net as part of their policy. We have been full timing for over four years without much change in price. We have our tow car with them also. I use Hi-Sage insurance in San Diego as our agent.

This group is GREAT!

It seems that most of you recommended "National Interstate Insurance", so I called them, signed up with them and cancelled my Progressive Insurance.

It's what you don't ask that will bite you in todays world of declining integrity. In my day "the omission of fact was the same as a lie", but today that seems to be the norm.

FYI.

I received a call from progressive after I canceled. They wanted to know WHY, I told them and they verified the following: "If a motorhome is not at one location at least 50% of the time they will/ can deny the claim for the "toad" and/or the motorhome." For me it's not worth a "roll of the dice."

FYI

The CEO of "Progressive"? is a major donor to causes of a progressive nature.
This is either bad or good depending on how you look at it.

Our discussion with Progressive regarding rates and non- use period stated that their rates assume that you are not full time and that there are period of non exposure. Not a fan of any insurance company but we do have Progressive and each time we renew we have tried to find a better deal with out success. The deciding factor for us has been the declining deductible which has been successful in locking us in to the plan.

Russ, am curious as to what that would have to do with anything regarding an insurance claim?

BTW, what exactly is a progressive? As opposed to what?
