Great Lakes and New England States

We are planning a 5 month trip east -starting end of May in Oregon- and like to stay for 6 weeks at the Great lakes and 8 weeks visiting the New England States.
Looking for recommendations about RV-Parks/RV Resorts Thank you in advance

For part of your trip: After Niagara Falls, we turned up I-87 at Albany to Plattsburgh NY, took the short ferry ride over Lake Champlain to Grand Isle. Or you can go on up and hit US11 East. On Grand Isle there is an RV park called Apple Island Resort in South Hero VT. From there we took road trips into Vermont to see Cabot Cheese and Ben & Jerry's. We then stopped at the KOA in White River Junction. Quechee Gorge is nearby. We made our way up thru New Hampshire to US Hwy 2 into Maine. We stopped in Bangor at Pumpkin Patch RV Park (Hermon ME) before heading to Bar Harbor. In Bar Harbor we stayed at The Narrows Too Campground. Pricey park but they do have sites more reasonably priced not on the water. Easy drive to Acadia National Park or there is a free trolley that stops at the campground. Plenty of places to eat Lobstah!! I'm ready to go again. It was a wonderful trip!! Mackinaw Michigan, Mill Creek RV resort is nice. Go see the Soo Locks at Sault St Marie. Whitefish Point to the shipwreck museum and lighthouse. On Hwy 2 at Harris Michigan in the UP there is Island Resort and Casino with a small RV park. $15 per night. You don't have to go into the casino unless you want to. So much to see and do. Enjoy your trip!! Lonny & Diane

My brother and family live in Springfield, VT, and have stayed with our RV 40' 06 Inspire at the KOA in White River Junction as well. My brother a few years ago had an opening of a new jewelry stores, Von Bargens Jewelry, in Hanover, NH, and the owner of the White River Junction campground allowed us to stay there when they weren't open! Very nice people. We originally are from Cadillac, MI, and there's a beautiful state campground in Cadillac called Mitchell State Park with many sites on Lake Cadillac as well as the canal which connects LakeCadillac to Lake Mitchell, the canal being about 1/2 mile long. Beautiful trees, beautiful lakes and a wonderful town with lots to do especially festivals in the summer. Traverse City, MI, (cherry capital of the world they say with many delicious cherry pies) is wonderful to visit too and has several very good campgrounds especially one just north of Traverse, a super lovely one and probably pricey. On up north from there is Petoskey which has 2-3 wonderful campgrounds, all either on Lake Michigan or nearby. Over on the east side of Michigan and up north is Harrisville State Park, in Harrisville, MI, and this is on Lake Huron. If you are interested in any spots around the Twin Cities of MN, Minneapolis and St. Paul, there's a lovely RV park in Woodbury, MN, just off I-94 and close to everything in the Cities. Up north near Bemidji, just east of Cass Lake are some Chippewa National Forest campgrounds, Norway Beach in particular, which is beautiful. There's a private campground there too called Stoney Point campground which is equally as beautiful. Both of those are right on the large lake called Cass Lake. Sorry about using the word lovely so much! You are in for a wonderful trip with so many fun places to visit! Ah, the joys of Rving!

Go east to stop at Glacier National Park, then stay on Hwy 2 (mostly 4 lane and relaxing driving) all the way to MN/WI.

In Wisconsin, I recommend two locations -

  • Door Country, just above Green Bay. Water on 3 sides, lovely small towns on the water, great shopping, sites, food. Stay at Baily's Grove Campground in Baily's Harbor. If you are an NFL fan, Lambeau Field and the Packer Museum are must destinations.
  • Stay a few days near Madison - best Farmers Market in the US, House on the Rock is the #1 state attraction, beautiful Campus at the University of Wisconsin (have a brew at 'The Union'). There is a great state park nearby to camp, or Viking Village Campground.
