Dash "Entry Step Out" light always on

Yahoo Message Number: 77592
Pulled up at a toll booth and wife got out to pay toll, (we in UK so thats why) about a mile down the road the entry step out light started to flickeron the dash then came on permanantly. After arriving at the site and restarting, steps in and out several times, the light still remains on when ignition switch on. I assume a contact may have shorted any clues where the sensor will be?

Several people have had the same problem over the years including me.
The problem is most likely an intermittent ground wire. Mine was in the wiring loom that goes into the door. The wires are small like phone lines and break easily from opening and closing the door. Be careful because the step goes in and out while you are driving.

Look under the entry step at the back and you should see a plunger switch, make sure the wire connection is still attached or the switch is not broken, it is also adjustable.

Thanks Kevin, I will have a look when I get back as the light now goes out!!! It had been raining and the roads were soaking, I suspect it is the same problem that I have with the LPG sensor which shows "OPn" when there is water on the roads, I think the sensor is getting wet and grounding through the damp? They do seem to be in stupid places if this is the case, but I will get my electrical spray sealant on them and see if that eliminates it!

The switch you are looking for is specificslly for the entry step light in the dash.

Kevin,

Thanks I recognise that, its that I have a similar problem with the LPG sensor, its exposed position allows it to get damp, to say the least, and in such circumstances the Sealand display reads OPn which accoring to the manual is an open circuit. This problem goes once I either dry off the LPG sensor or it drys naturally!! This has been the case now with the step sensor (it is now dry and the problem gone) so I will get under and seal it with some electrical spray. Thanks for the heads up on what to look for, very helpful.

Kevin,

Still trying to solve this, the problem is that it only happens when it is raining and quite hard so the roads are soaking, clearly water is splashing or ingressing causing a short and the light on the dash comes on. Of course by the time I get the coach to somewhere and such that I can inspect the problem has gone!! So which wires are feeding the warning light and how is this activated, open or closed? By the way the steps are never out in this condition it is just the light.
