Electrical Issues

Yahoo Message Number: 77726
I'm still finding my way around our recently purchased 2005 Inspire and I'm dealing with some electrical issues.
If I'm using the house batteries with the inverter and then switch to gen power the microwave loses all power when the transfer switch changes the source. There may be other circuits affected but I haven't run across them.

Check the breaker on the generator, if you don't have both leg s you will not have power in some outlets.

Good luck

There is only one breaker on the gen and it didn't trip. Here are the combined symptoms:

On shore power (110 15 amp) the Xantrec remote shows AC in.
The Xantrec charging state light has stayed on red overnight and the DC Volts are at 12.0.
The Smart EMS shows 30 amps and 0 AC in.
There is no power to the AC outlets.
When I connect it to shore power I can hear the transfer switch make the transfer after 2-3 minutes.
When I start the gen the EMS shows the Generator is working.
Electrical issues are not my strength so any suggestions would be appreciated.

One additional symptom:

When the inverter is on all the inverter fed circuits within the coach are working normally. When the tranfer switch cuts over to shore power, the 110 circuits go dark.

If I read your posts correctly, you have power with the inverter but not with the generator or shore power. I assume all of this worked properly at one time. What appears to be in common here is the transfer switch and the surge guard.
On my 2000 Magna, the power from the transfer switch goes through the surge guard and if yours is the same way, I would start looking at these two items and look at the surge guard first. If you aren't comfortable working with electricity, stop now and get help. Before plugging in to shore power and with the generator and inverter off check all connections to the surge guard to make sure they are tight. Get out your manual on the surge guard, mine is a TRC, and check the indicator lights to make sure you have power to the surge guard when on shore power. If you do have power to the surge guard then what do the indicator lights tell you? If no power to the surge guard, start the generator and see if you have power to the surge guard. If not, you probably have a problem with the transfer switch.

What inverter do you have? On all xantrex freedom series they have 2 circuit breakers on the output side that control power switched through the inverter. I believe this is true of all inverter/chargers used in our coaches. On my 99 allure the inverter is located at the top of the battery compartment in a separate compartment. After removing 2 wingnuts the door can be removed and the push button breakers reset although not seen.

On my wiring diagrams, the shore power and generator power enter the coach via the Transfer Switch. You are not receiving power from these sources.
The Inverter draws power from the Batteries and is installed after the House 110v breaker panel.

So you may have:

a breaker off in the 110v breaker panel.

or

a transfer switch not passing any 110v current.
If any of your outlets provide power when connected to the 110v sources, then there may be a breaker problem or wire problem prior to the inverter but after the breaker panel.

Make sure the main power cord goes straight to the transfer switch and there is no junction box with a splice.

A few folks asked for an update on this:
Bottom line is the fault was with the transfer switch that is contained within the inverter. (I didn't even know there was one in there.) It took one relay and one circuit beaker, both within the inverter, to correct the fault.

Thanks to those of you that pointed me in that direction.

The inverter was serviced by ASE Supply in Portland, OR.
