Another 99 Magna Webasto problem

Hello from chilly Flagstaff, AZ,

We got up here out of Phoenix yesterday and turned on the Webasto to prepare for the 20's overnight. It seem to heat fine and even got too warm in the night. Turned it back on early this morning and no heat. We gave up after a bit and turned on the heat pumps. After we returned from a day in Sedona we decided to try the Webasto again. I looked out to see major smoke that turned into a two foot flame out the exhaust pipe! I ran back in and shut it off. After the smoke cleared we looked in the compartment but honestly we don't even know where to start.

HELP! I miss my Webasto!

I will give a shot at this. It sounds like it needs a good service. May not have ignited the fuel the first time and when it did it had a excess amount of fuel in the burn chamber. May need the electrodes adjusted. If you have not had experience on how to service, then suggest you try to find someone in Flagstaff to do it and show you how. Are there any RV service shops or truck shops with experience? Will need to make a bunch of calls. Not easy to find what one needs in Flagstaff at times. If plugged in to 50 amp may need to run electric heat until you arrive where there is service available.

Hi Tammy. Sounds to me like you had the Wabasto equivalent of a chimney fire - poor combustion, soot buildup, flash fire and smoke.
Seems like a tune-up is in order. I recommend you back track to Eric Olstrom's shop in Tucson. Co-incidentally, he did my HydroHot tune-up just before the CCI Rally. Inspection of the combustion chamber was part of the work.

Great to see you and Rick at the CCI Rally - what fun that was!
