315/80 R22,5 MICHELIN TIRES

Yahoo Message Number: 78503
I'm not familar in tire business and tire prices.

I got an offer from Bob Dickman Tire Center in YC, OR for two 315/80 Michelin-tires for $ 1,973.04 including mounting, balancing, stems, disposal etc.
Is that a fair price or do I have to ask for a discount.
Dickman is NOT working with the Michelin/FMCA program.

I like Dickman Tire and have purchased a number of tires from them; but, I would definitely be looking into the FMCA program. In September a member paid $731 out the door for the 315 X2A2.
A member of this forum just recently posted that they beat Dickman's prices from a Michelin dealer in Eugene who I believe in registered in the National Michelin program. Maybe someone can rember that dealers name. I am very happy with the X2A2 and after 10,000 miles am not seeing the edge wear that I had on the Goodyears.

Are these tires "gold plated". I know that tire prices have gone up......BUT a thousand dollars per tire. I suggest that you shop around a lot more before you make a commitment.
Good luck.

I'm with you Denny, at that price they would have to provide a chauffeur for a year.
Once again, love my TOYOs.

Greetings campers,

I was a true Toyo fan. I even switched to Toyo Versado's for both cars (I really like them). I had planned to replace my original coach Toyo's with new ones until a blowout forced me to change my plans. They were 7 years old, 50,000 miles, tread still serviceable.

Not a Toyo fan anymore.

I have just finished my first extended drive on my Michelin XZA3, 11R22.5s.
These new tires are a dream. The ride is softer and quieter with the Michelins. The wander in the steering is gone!!
Part of the problem with the Toyo's was my need to keep the fronts at 120 psi to reduce the wander. I run the Michelins at 105 in front.
The price differential between new Toyo M154's and Michelin XZA3's was minimal. Well worth the difference.

Just one guy's opinion.

Jay,

You know I have nothing but respect for the owner of the second best Inspire on the road....BUT i must respectfully comment on your post.
Seven years is pushing the life of any tire (although I had seven on my TOYOs when I replaced them.
A blowout could have many causes and unless it was proven that the TOYO was faulty, I would be hard pressed to blame them.
Most of all, to say that the price difference was minimal makes me wonder. I would guess that your Michelins cost at least 50% more than my TOYOS. To be fair, I could replace my tires more often and leave myself less susceptible to tire failure.
Finally, I had Michelins on my Mountain Aire and, unless my Inspire is just so superior, they could not touch the ride of my TOYOs.
Obviously this is a buyers choice but in my book (check book that is) I'll stick with my TOYOs.

Still luv ya Jay.......

Jay, et al,

Just my .02 on tires.

I just had my 11 year old Toyos replaced. Only 48K miles, and weren't in bad shape.

I know, I know that's way to long to have tires on the coach. But that's what I did.

You think you know how to procrastinate.................

If luck comes with a quota you just used up your luck quota with those Toyos!

Why do we have so many of these tire debates?
There are so many variables to the whole issue that it's almost impossible for anyone to present a case for or against anything concrete.
The fact is that the facts are all blurred by our own set of circumstances that we can't genuinely give sound advice other than recount our own experiences and hope the reader learns something from them.

I agree totally except my Toyos started failing at 4.3 years old. The left front two inner ribs of tread were changing direction and moving in and out as the tire rotated. The wandering went away, the ride after 3.5 years is still quieter and smoother and there is no edge wear with 40 miles of wear, even on the tag axle. My coach use 12R, however and mine are XZ2. TWI 2004 intrigue 11731. Oh my previous Allure went through 4 sets of 275R70's Toyos up front before I went with 275R80's all around from Continental. 98 Allure 30255

Bert, bought two 315/80 Michelin-tires from Bob Dickman Tire Center in JC, OR for just under $1800.00 including mounting, balancing, stems, disposal etc last Sept. Reason went to Dickman's is they had the freshest tires with a DOT code only three months old. At the time didn't have time to shop as knocked the front end out alignment coming back from Alaska. It was suggested to have either Kaiser Brake & Alignment in Eugene or CC in JC do the alignment. Kaiser could fit us in and was really impressed as they had me under the Coach pointing out a couple of other things that needed corrected. Kaiser road tested (3 times) with me until it was perfect. Now, I was bent on wanting Toyo's as they served me well for the past five years. Dickman's would get me Toyo's but suggested Michelin's for Steer tires. On trip back to Fla picked up almost 3/4 MPG with new Michelin's and front end aligned.
