storage slideout tray pinch point

If anyone else has the type of sliding storage tray that came installed in my 03 Allure, please be more carefull then I was about avoiding the pinch point created as the tray slides over the door latch block. I have uploaded some pictures of the design in the photo section. You will notice that the handle is horizontal, causing you to reach below it and lift up to release the tray lock.
As you slide the tray out, your fingers are pointing down, and if you are not careful, you can catch the end of your finger between the very sharp botton rail of the tray and the door latching block.
I met another CC Allure owner on the trip out here, and on his coach, the lever was installed pointing up, so your fingers are not placed in harms way. If they had offset the latch from the door locking block, this pinch point would have been avoided, I would not have spent a few hours in the ER, having my finger stitched up and the rest of the nail removed, and our trip delayed a day. When I get to Eugene, I will have CC reposition the latch to a verticle position.

Sorry that you had to sustain an injury to find this problem. Our Allure (2002 model, coach # 30778) had the same pinch point. My husband lost a fingernail exactly the same way right after we bought our coach in the Spring of 2002. We repositioned the lever ourselves to prevent future problems for us - AND - I sent Country Coach an e- mail describing in detail what happened. "They" said they would pass the info along to their engineering staff - - - apparently it was overlooked - as are a lot of details from owners!!

Mary Jo, sorry for Jim. Amazing that companies let this stuff go by. In this lawsuit prone society, someone else would have already called Johnny Cochran. "if you loose a finger, the lawsuit will be a humdinger"

I will also reposition the handle to vertical, as soon as I get back the use of my hand.

My 2000 Intrigue has two small half sized bays under the galley slide. They were almost useless so we went to Joey Bed in Portland (met them at the CC Ralley in Eugene) and had two roll out put in

Yes they even squeezed one in where the frame cross member extends into the bay!)

What a major difference in quality and safety!!! Considering having all of the weak/wobbly finger biters replaced (got cash???)

We saw several different bed manufacturer displays at the FMCA Convention in Buffalo. They all seemed to have their advantages/disadvantages. Steel vs aluminum, for example. Steel rollers vs composite. Metal vs wood tray.
Any comments? Likes/dislikes/recommendations?
