Oh Crap! Another Coolant Leak

Howdy Campers,

The leak isn't a new one but has gotten worse over the past 2 years. Leaks usually progress in this fashion. This one was traced to an improperly tightened fitting in the pipe that connects the engine water jacket to the radiator. No time for that extra turn at the factory I guess. My repair procedure with photos is here:

Best - Scott

I'm facing a similar problem. Same pipe, but different fitting. In my case it is the large angle pipe that attaches to the engine block. The hose from that 90 degree angle to the long pipe that you noted ran between engine and radiator is leaking.
I'll need to drain coolant, disassemble the long pipe and its hoses clean off the part of the pipe that is hidden beneath the connector hoses and then reassemble.
Question: What size silicon hoses did you end up buying and where did you find them?
Incidently... like you, I initially thought my leak was coming from the long pipe and especially that weld. I even went so far as to find the source of the pipe. (not a cheap pipe to replace by the way). Further inspection revealed the pipe was ok....but I cleaned off all the rust and POR-15'd the exposed part of that pipe a couple years ago. The leak persisted of course, and I was eventually able to identify the source as coming from upstream of that pipe....but I've been reluctant to attack the problem for fear of dealing with finding the right hoses. In my case I lose around a pint of water each time I drive 500 miles, and about a quarter cup for the first 4 hrs of cool down time.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Skip - I got 1" silicone hose at EVCO House of Hose in Salt Lake City, UT. Their web site is: http://www.houseofhose.com/ I also got the barb fitting from them as well as the vinyl clamps I needed. I might have gotten hosed a little on the prices but overall things didn't go badly. The OEM hose (on my bus) that connects to the filler/expansion tank is Goodyear 1" red heater hose. I just wanted to score the parts, get it back together and move to the next task. I only replaced one length of hose. Good luck with your repairs.
