Black Box Sludge & Rid-X

Yahoo Message Number: 79562
Hi,

Been having a small issue with getting the black water tank level gauge to read properly above 50. I gather sludge has been building up in and around where the gauge strip has been installed causing erratic readings. We used Aqua-Chem, Thetford's level gauge cleaner and the proverbial "douche" rod to facilitate cleaning and nothing seems to work. Not really in a position to go for the expensive power spray routine either.

Some week ago I reached out here for a recommendation on enzyme tank chemistries thinking this might be yet another more effective avenue to pursue. One gentleman (might have been Herb) suggested using Rid-X. On that recommendation, we scored a 24 oz bottle to experiment with. We over dosed the tank twice with an 8 oz shot of Rid-X and used the "douche" rod after the second dosing. Seems this has done the trick. In other words, Rid-X has worked on removing sludge where other methods have failed. The gauge now reads from 0-100 as it should. Obviously we'll back down the dosage now that things seem clean. There was a mild concern (switching from Aqua-Chem to Rid-X) about sewage smell but we didn't have any issues with that either. Now I certainly can't claim to be #1 in a #2 business but I thought a few other folks here might find this information helpful.

Best - Scott

Scott, it may have been I that responded as I did recommend Rid-X on this site a few weeks ago. Could have been Herb too . . . whatever.
You are overdosing and wasting Rid-X. Use the liquid, and add 2 capfuls right after every dump.

Lee,

Do you use any commercial products with the Rid-X? Or do you just use the Rid-X?

Hi Jock. Liquid Rid-X and nothing else.
If the coach will sit unused, be sure to add 5 gallons of water. On the way to home-base we try to do a final dump of both black/gray tanks at the last camp, add the Rid-X and water and let it slosh on the way home, using rest areas on the way home, then park it and let the solution digest residual 'stuff.'
