C-9 won't make power upon initial startup

My coach's C-9 won't pull a hat off upon startup. Its fine after a warm up period. I thought this was just a cold weather issue but it did it in Sedona last week even after having had the block heater on overnight. It seems to take longer to make power the colder it is. CAT says its standard for the C-9 to need 15 minutes to warm up! All my previous coaches have had Cummins C-8.3 or M-11 engines and I never had this issue. I wondered about a turbo leak that closes when it heats up. CAT suggested checking this out @ about 5 hours of labor unless there is a "hard" part failure... Gotta be a better solution than that!

What year is your engine?

There is an ECM update that addresses this. It fixed the exact same issue on my 2004 engine.

Ken Retired Cat Tech, I agree check for ECM updates! My Question is does it idle rough and blow white smoke also have you ever had a shop laptop put on the C-9 and had updates? Just before I retired four years ago I had several C-9's do this in cooler weather ECM update did the trick, As the tech does the update have him check paramiters running and perhapps a cylinder cut off test well worth the money. If I were lucky enough I would of loved having a C-9 in my dream coach, Good strong Motor! Ken 99 Allure 30356

We had s similar problem with our C15. Turned-out to be a loose hose clamp and leak on the big turbo charger duct. When the metal tube heated-up the leak diminished.
