tach inop

Had my coach in shop as tach did not work. Tech working on coach said wire from computer to indicator had been cut and spliced to Some type of sensor near tyranny and on to indicator. He wired it back to CC spec's and it still did not work. He told me might be a Cummins sensor or just need a reflash. He told me the Kenworth dealer was Cummins authorized dealer. So off to Kenworth who say it needs a new sensor and has wiring issues, $659 to repair. This seems high to me wiring takes ¾ hr to repair! What say you is price out of line???

Your tach should work off the back of the alternator. Is your alternator working at all? Usually when the tack stops it is a sign the alternator has stopped charging. That is the way it is on 95 through 99 coaches I know of.

Leonard,

That was my thought as well. However Butch Williams at Fountain RV using CC prints says the wire to tach comes from the B connector on the computer. MY alternator works well. Tach has been having problems for at least a year. He told me Cummins may have modified tach to use a sensor that is not shown in CC prints. My chassis is a 98 the coach is a 99.
