Country Coach 2006 Allure - Prospect

Hi Everyone,

I'm 95% sure I am going to purchase a 2006 Country Coach Allure w/ 25K miles on it. It is in Pristine condition and looks immaculate inside and out. Can anyone offer any pros/cons to this luxury coach? I've read a lot about this unit, and it seems to be a perfect match for what i'm looking for, but if anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it!

If you have any dark or black paint the possibility of the paint checking is a real possibility. The PTO

that drives your hydraulic systems needs to be updated with a wet kit and the splines on the gear drive

need to be checked. There is the possibility you have an Aluminum radiator that will need to be

replaced along with the charge air cooler. Check and make sure the fan controller is in working order.

If its a 430 the slides will be electric and shearing bolts can be an issue. Some of the 470's with

Hydraulic slides can have hydraulic hose issues. Its time to replace the tires if they haven't been

already. Hoses for the hydro-hot and the genset will develop leaks and should be replaced. If you buy

Michelins keep them out of the sun and drive the coach every 30 days while in storage. I'm not fond of

Yamaha electronics and the way CC EQ'd the speakers. Its a difficult system to master as connected by

the factory. The idea of having ceiling speakers pointing straight down and you sitting 10 to 15 ft away

is not my idea of good imaging for a surround or stereo system. If the sub is under the kitchen counter

thats a definite no-no, too. If the unit has the dimmer light controls, good luck. Make sure the

batteries are new and sealed if lead acid, or AGM. Change water filter.
Have the coach serviced by Cat

or Cummins depending on which engine you have. Have the Transmission serviced too. Make sure you

get all the manuals and paint codes and how to sheets CC published for your coach in the card board

filing box. Also make sure you get the two 3 ring binders with schematic, plumbing diagrams, and

service information. Have your chassis lubed by a some one familiar with the IFS front end other wise

they could blow your seals and cost you big bucks. The last issue is the Norcold refer, it needs to be

updated or replaced with a residential unit before taking possession. I am just scratching the surface. I

guess some of old timers ought to get together and publish a form with all the answers. TWI 2004

Blayne - We got that bus in 2007 and have lived in it now for 4 years and change. Let's say I've learned a lot in that time. This news group is, of course, a valuable resource of information on the good, the bad and the ugly as far as many CC models are concerned. The question that you pose is a good one but extremely general. I did a bit on our bus which you can read here: http://www.muniac.com/Rig_Reveal.html It might be helpful for you. Jeannie and I enjoy the mobile lifestyle and have been very comfortable with the Allure (40' 4 slides). Much more comfortable that we expected, in fact. What hasn't been so comfortable is the rash of break downs, repairs, fixes and constant problems. That comment isn't directed specifically at the Allure as I think all these vehicles have issues. And there's not much point in dredging all that up here. The subject lines of this news group are revealing enough.
As for our bus, it drives well and is comfortable. The layout continues to work for us as full timers as we enter our 5th year. We look forward to many more years. But that's just two knuckle heads living out our version of adventure. So many variables influence the individual experience, however. Take our information in that context and extrapolate from there. As for our purchase, the dealer sucked and was misleading. Not really a surprise and we managed to get through it all without taking too much of a bath. Pristine condition and immaculate inside and out are good starting points. But then there is the Cummins ISL 400 connecting rod recall that we just missed. Our bus was an early delivery in Oct 2005. The engine was too old to be affected. I mention this only to illuminate all that can go wrong behind the scenes. The $6K radiator repair was another surprise.
As I mentioned, all these vehicles have issues. So that means factory support is really important. And you will want someone that stands behind their product with real answers, ethical treatment and appropriate solutions for problems you didn't cause. Red tape, BS, smoke, scams and mirrors just doesn't cut it in my book. You've taken an important step by asking those that own these vehicles and whose opinions aren't financially motivated. It's a BIG purchase so try to learn as much as possible about what you are taking on before signing on the dotted line. Knowing this will help you plan for repairs, down time and imponderables. We, owing to ignorance, got caught with our pants down. That's my take on your question. Others will jump in and give their points of view. Expect differences and realize those differences increase the bandwidth of knowledge passed along to you. Good luck and let me know if I can provide anymore specifics.

This year coach has a very high if not 100% chance of having an Aluminum Radiator rather than a Copper/Brass Steel Tanks Radiator.
The issue has been a high failure rate costing each owner $4,000+ for replacement and labor.
Most of the extended warranty companies will not stand behind this failure issue.

I would recommend you verify prior to purchase.

There is also a good possibility that the radiator has already been replaced. The factory replaced ours in 2007 so you can see it did not last long.

Have you taken a good look at the paint? I have not seen one that did not have serious paint issues unless it was stored inside. Does it have the hydro-hot system? A very nice feature but does need to be maintained. Would be very interested in the price.

I have a 2006 CC Allure 430. I would check to see if your engine is part of the CM850 recall. Mine was and the engine blew up and needed complete replacement. Mileage was about 28,000 miles.
I was under the 5 year warranty and Cummins replaced it. You are over the time limit and probably won't be covered.

I would run if you fall under the recall.

John, My Radiator is A-OK so far, here is the story: I did have the Radiator/Charge Air Cooler/Oil Cooler removed due to my Charge Air Cooler leaking.
The Charge Air Cooler was a fairly simple fix, so I didn't order a new one. While all this was out of the coach I had the Radiator rodded out (cleaned) and Pressure Tested, as well as Oil Cooler, they were both good. This was still a $4,000 issue, the labor is for all this is 20 hours, plus all new Coolant, new Hydraulic Oil, I put on all new Boots and of course the work on the 3 components.
My Radiator is Copper/Brass with Steel Tanks and was manufactured by J.B. Radiator Specialties - Sacramento, CA. This was before Country Coach and Monaco started finding ways to cut cost on certain components such as Radiators going to Aluminum. Note: your Charge Air Cooler is Aluminum, almost all are, the issue is how they are mounted in by Country Coach.
I know for sure they started using Aluminum in 2004 models. You might find the JB Radiator Specialties Part# & Seriel number label on the Charge Air Cooler or Radiator which would allow you to call them for verification of materials.

Thank you all very much for all of your input. I was on my way down to check this unit out this morning........and it sold yesterday (maybe i dodged a bullet). The hunt continues.....thanks again everyone! BTW...Asking price was 150K even and it was a private sale for those who inquired.
