Propane - Liability - Opinion Shift

Yahoo Message Number: 81240
Hi had trouble posting to the Propane Liability link, but still wanted to share a shift in my thinking. Just sharing info, not trying to convert anyone else's thinking.
I have driven with the propane tank turned on in two different coaches, for about 7 years now. I did this due to the safety valuve shut off in advent of detection of high volumes of leakage. I left it on to cool the fridge while driving. I due feel that this was safe for me to have done, and of course, did turn off the fridge at fueling times. I have a friend with a truck that was propane driven, that he drove for over 14 years. He was in two minor accidents, and then his truck was hit hard enough to make it salvage, while parked. The 'total' accident, did trigger the shut off of his propane valve.
OK, after re-reading the posts here, and doing more research on Google, RV.Net, etc. I've now decided to no longer travel with the propane tank on. I've always practiced and believed in safety. My wife and I have regular reviews of our safety strategy in both the home, work and RV. When our duaghter comes on a trip, we always go over the safety rules with her again (yes, to sometimes rolling eyes:)!).
Why the shift now? A few reasons: 1) Most important, it does provide another level of safety. IMO a small level of improved safety - but an improvement non the less. 2) We find in our current rig, that we usually travel with the generator on for a period while on trips. So, it can provide cooling. 3) We will be going to Permanent Part Time Full Timing next year. So, we will not longer be doing 5 up to 11 hours a day drives to 'get to a vacation destination'. We can take our times, and I've read on many boards that when retired - two to four hours seems to be the norm for a day - the fridge should dow fine during this time.
The last reason, ties into the getting ready for retirement. We will be adding more solar panels, and another pair of 8D's (Dallas's, ahd others, pictures has inspired this beefing up of battery capacity:)!). As part of this, I'll add a dedicated inverter for the fridge, and replace the current coach inverter with a pure sine wave unit. (Stay tuned for requests for input over the next half year - as I will be asking for component input along this journey. Especially in regards to alternator capacity, as I have concerns of over taxing the OEM unit.)
My choice to shift to 'propane off' now, as it was to drive with the propane on the last 7 years or so.

I wish you all the best, have fun, stay safe, Smitty

Smitty,

Are you referring to my 'hyper active attention deficit disorder syndrome' when you say (Dallas's ahd) below???

I resemble that comment.

A plasma cutter, reciprocating saw and welding equipment comes in handy when adding two more 8D's to a coach that was built for only three 8D's. Oh and also a good over active imagination while doing a rendering job on the battery bay. Bring the coach by and I will show you how to do it or be it.
