CAPS vs. Common Rail

Yahoo Message Number: 81414
What is the difference between the two, and for what does CAPS stand?
Suddenly I gather that I might have an engine subject to a failure of some sort. I'm not particularly mechanically savvy...I was a musician, after all.;-)

Do I need to check the list archives, and if so, what should my search parameters be?
TIA,

Ken Harrison

Ken, The initials CAPS refers to "Cummins Accumulator Pump System" it is a high pressure fuel pump that feeds the engines "fuel injectors".
In early or at least the 1st half of 2003 Cummins changed to the "Common Rail System"....which in my opinion is Mucho Better.
Regarding your 2004 Allure find your "Engine Serial Number" then call the Cummins Hot Line 800-343-7357 and ask them. They'll have right at hand. This is much easier than I trying to describe to you what to look for within your engine bay door.

Have fun playing music.
