Request for battery info.

Yahoo Message Number: 81490
#30485 2000 Allure 40ft. Cummins ISC I'm about 1600 mi. away from our rig at this time and I need to know the type or class of stock 12VDC wet cell batteries that are in my battery compartment. My coach has three identical batteries (one chassis and two house) and my estimated size (or guess) is that they are 13"W X 20"L X 12"Tall.
Can someone provide the rated amp hours, a brand w/model number, or any other information? I have all of this info. in my coach at arms reach but I'm not there now and my wife is frantic trying to purchase two replacement batteries.

Thanks.

Will guess she is trying to replace the two house batteries. Since she is not going to install herself, go to a very good battery shop or call and have them go to her. Have them replaced with a very good deep cycle pair. Interstate makes very good 12 volt deep cycle. Or you can replace the two with a set of 6 volt Trojan bank. Gives more totally storage. If money not the issue, then a bank of AGM is very good, but very expensive compared to the wet cell. What is in there now is not extremely important. A set of batteries need replaced as a set, i.e. the two house batteries replaced together. The coach is ok to replace by self.

Give location and others maybe able to recommend a good battery shop in your area.

If your battery bay is like this one: http://muniac.smugmug.com/Travel/Country-Coach-2006-430-Allure/IMG3270/738717472_Ff4BF-M.jpg use 8D deep cycle units. Rolls Marine is a good flooded unit but I'd go with Lifeline AGM batteries. My chassis batteries are group 31 Odyssey units. Hope this helps ease a frantic wife's dilemma. Good luck.

We're on our 4th set of batteries in our 98 Intrigue (just replaced them). Found the best buy for our money is Sam's Club. Heavy duty truck battery (8D) for the chassis and 4, 6 volt golf cart batteries for the coach. Think we pd around $180 for chassis (same one at Interstate was $220) and the $80 for the 6V (around $120 at interstate, more for Trojen). Last set of batteries lasted 7 years. I have the specs but Sam's only sells 1 type of HD truck and 1 6V golf cart battery (eq to the Trojen T105). I've used Sam's in my auto's for a long time and they are very good, located everywhere and easy to deal with. Only had to return 1 car battery within a year, not problem.
You can pay a bunch more for gel or AGM, but from what we see for what we do, the lead acid suffices and cost is much less.

I have same coach and use wet cell batteries. Your batteries are size 8D. For the engine start battery, I used a size 8D from Sam's Club. For the two house batteries, use a size 8D deep cycle. You may have to go to a battery shop to find the deep cycle in 8D. Engine start batteries are rated in Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) and deep cycle batteries are rated in amps per hour.
Some years ago I changed out the two *D house batteries and installed 4 Trojan T-145 6 volt depp cycle batteries. They required some additional cabling to pair up the batteries in series for the two 12v banks. I was able to increase my amps per hour capacity and they have served me well.

Thanks everyone. Ordered the batteries from the information you folks provided. As soon as I saw y'all's (is that a word?) responses I realized that you were confirming my memory on what they are. I ordered two Deka 908D HD @ $152.77 ea. through a relative who is a manager for NAPA. I'm pretty sure he said they are $226 retail. An RV service tech near Kalispell, MT will install them tomorrow. I'm in St. Louis, MO this week. Thanks again.
