Clearcoat problems on mid-1990s CountryCoaches

Yahoo Message Number: 82343
This thread brings back memories. Allures from that period were only clear coated where painted

graphics exsisted and on the front cap over the windshield, where Intrigues being an up grade were

clear coated over the entire coach. In 2000 while visiting the FMCA rally in Oklahoma City, CC

introduced the first Intrigue with full body paint as I remember. As we all found out the clear coat

would only stick to painted surfaces and would fail when applied to the Gel Coat, especially on the curve

of the roof where it meets the side walls.. Well after 4 years of fighting to keep the Gel Coat looking like

new I saved up $10,000 to remove all the gel coat and clear coat and have my 98 Allure painted and

clear coated over the entire body keeping the original graphics and colors.
When I saw my first Ovation

in the Spring of 03 I was hooked so eventually the paint money was used to sweeten the deal, when I

traded my Allure for a new 04 Intrigue. After 9 years I can say I have had no clear coat or paint issues.

My '95 INTRIGUE 10070 has the peeling clearcoat. Everytime I wash I remove any that is loose. Seems

to be caused by sun breaking the clearcoat to gelcoat bond. Much of the sides of my coach are not

peeling. However, the areas above the awnings that receive a reflection off the metal awning cases is

almost fully peeled. Of interest is about 18 inches along the edge of the roof near the door that is still

well attached. Do not know why. RUSS WARREN Visit Your Group
