Norcold Replacement

I have joined the ranks of those who have replaced their Norcold refrigerators. I opted for the Amish Cooling Unit, and for the factory install in Shipshewana, IN. It is important to me to be able to dry camp, or when using 30A service to be able to use both A/C units while running the refrigerator on propane.
My appointment was for 8:00 am, and by 9:30 the new cooling unit was installed, and the refrigerator was back in place. We stayed through the lunch hour to ensure it was functioning correctly, which it was. Plenty of Amish cooking in the area!
It was evident looking at the units side by side that the new unit was well built, and had twice the length of cooling tubes as compared to the old unit.
The entire installation process was excellently done. I heartily recommend them, and their product.

Hello Phil

You will not be disappointed with the Amish unit, it is well built and oozes quality, after I installed mine and plugged it in I had ice in 6 hours and can keep ice cream frozen, it is far more efficient than the Norcold and I love it.

Phil - Glad you had a pleasing experience. It's always good to hear these stories and reminds us all that it can be done! I echo your observations on the Pines RV Refrigeration cooling unit. It's well made and functions well too. We're in about 18+ months (frig runs 24x7) and things are fine. The absorber runs luke warm too. I'd caution everyone who has a gas absorption unit to pay very close attention to making sure it's level. One common problem is operating these units slightly out of level. It creates excessive heat owing to restricting the flow of chemicals. That causes the sodium chromate to crystallize which further impedes flow. The extreme heat generated by this is a potential fire hazard. Condensation on the cooling tubes can rust the piping over time which is another failure point. Properly coated piping would help prevent this. Good luck and enjoy you new cooling capacity. We run ours on 7 and it works fine to include the summer.
