Glue for basement door coming apart

Yahoo Message Number: 82498
One of my basement doors is coming apart. The mounting bracket for the door lift cylinder along with the skin it is attached to is separating from the polystyrene door insulation.
Anyone have a suggestion for a good quality adhesive so I can put it back together?

Thanks

Norm, for that application which will continue to take stress, I would use 2- component epoxy. good luck

I would use 5200 available everywhere now.

I second the 3M 5200 Marine Adhesive Sealant. I reattached the panel behind the front wheel on my former coach. It had been stuck on with two sided tape and was subject to diesel fuel spills. Eventually it gave up the ghost and came loose. After cleaning the two surfaces thoroughly with lacquer thinner I used 5200 to reattach the panel. It takes several days to fully cure. I believe there is another version that cures quicker but may not have the strength.
It is important that you reestablish that bond as one of my doors had a similar problem and cracked the inside skin so that the mounting bracket for the lift strut came loose and could not be reattached without some major work. Until you get this panel fixed, I would recommend removing the lift strut to prevent stressing the loose skin.

I had this problem on my battery compartment door. However, before the inner panel separated from the outer panel, the inner panel bulged where the hydraulic lift was attached probably due to the heat in that compartment. I had a guy in Tucson who does body work fix the problem. He cut out the bulged area, glued a wood blocking to the outer panel, patched the inner panel and then re-glued the inner panel to the outer on the edges. I don't know what type of glue he used but the fix has worked fine with no evidence of a returning problem and it was fixed 3 years ago.

I have the same problem that I have dealt with innefectively a couple of times. How did you guys get the door off to be able to make a good repair? Mine has a piano hinge riveted on. I cringe at the thought of trying to pull the pin on it. Drill the rivets?

Vick and Gerald,

I would like to throw my 2 cents worth in here about Roadside service. When I purchased my 40ft 2004 Inspire in July of 2003 we were given Coach Net for the first year. In October we were head to Boone, NC for a family reunion and got to Lincolnton, NC when I discovered there was a very bad fuel leak. I pulled over at an exit and called Coach Net at about 3PM. They sent out a very large tow truck and after an hour or so the driver told me that he couldn't tow my coach. He called out his boss and he confirmed that they could not tow it. They also told me that there wasn't a tow truck in this country that could tow it. I then called Coach Net back at around 5PM and they said that it would have to be put on a "Low Boy" truck to move it up to Hickory, about 15 miles. At 9PM I was on the phone with Coach Net again and they told me that they could not do anything for me until Monday (this was on Friday night). I won't go into the rest of the gory details but I finally had to drive the coach with the leak up to Hickory on Sunday afternoon. Cummins would not send a mechanic out and the tow truck driver went back to see if it could be fixed there on the side of the road. After getting to Freight Liner in Hickory I looked under the bedroom floor and found that it was a loose fitting at on of the injectors. This was my first experience with Coach Net and you can see it wasn't a very good one. I have since used Good Sams Roadside Service and it was not much better.
I have looked into AAA and they do not cover RVs unless they have changed since I last checked.

Robert,

Sorry to hear of your problem. I have never had a problem with Coach Net, so do not know what to say. You have a 40ft coach and there are tow trucks that can tow it with no problem so I do not understand the tow truck company saying there was not a tow truck in the country that could tow it. The fact Coach Net could not find a flatbed to move it until Monday may have been the truth. One of the company's I had previously, told me they did not know of a tow company that could tow my 40ft coach so I call Lazy Days and asked who they used and called them! Hope we all have better luck in the future!!!

I have had the exact opposite experience with Coach Net and am amazed they have not cancelled me given how many times I got towed or hauled. Once because of a bad fuel gauge, on a holiday week end they towed me to a campground for the 3 day weekend and then towed us to the repair shop on Tuesday. Total bill over $900 which they paid. Two other tows with the fan controller going bad intermittently.
