Bendix Air Dryer

Yahoo Message Number: 82643
I think it is time to so some PM on my Bendix Air Dryer. I am having trouble with a source for the kit, if there is one, or individual parts if a kit is not in the mix. Someone said that kits are no longer available and that individual parts are the way to go. In that case I'm not sure how to order what needs to be replaced. Help appreciated.

Lyle,

Depends on which dryer you have, being an '04 I'd assume it has the cartridge filter that spins on & off. Any local truck shop should have it, freightliner, fleet pride, etc..

It depends on which engine you have as the CAT and Cummings engines have a different style dryer. If you have a CAT engine I may be able to help. For CAT c-9s there is a new and a remanufacture dryer filter. The re-manufactured filter is much cheaper and equal in quality per Bendix . The is a core charge for the remanufactured filter. You also should replace the purge valve which is no longer available in a repair kit form. Per Bendix the purge valve should be replaced although probably not as often as the filter. You may need to call ahead to make sure the re-manfactured filter is on hand.

Dan,

The engine is a Cummins ISL 400. I crawled under there today to get a part number but to no avail. Really tough to get to as it is mounted with the cylinder on top of the mounting assembly. The last one I did myself was just the opposite and easy to get to. But thanks for the input.

Barney,

Many thanks. I'm not sure the Inspire and the Intrigue will have the same set up even though they have the same engine. But I will use your part numbers to do some more research.

If you call Bendix tech support they will direct you to where you can find their service manuals on line and that you can download. They are very helpful. The service manuals give you all the part numbers for servicing the filter and they procedures for trouble shooting the filter. I did not find it difficult to find the parts once I had the correct part numbers.
