MotoSat

This week I tried to update our software for MotoSat. When I couldn't connect to MotoSat's web site I did some checking on the internet and found out that other users were having the same problem. Even their customer service number is not in service. I found out that they are out of business. Where does this leave us? We can wait until our satellite provider changes something and MotoSat won't work anymore or switch systems now.
Interested what other MotoSat owners are doing? Sibylle Beck, Salem OR

A couple of years ago a company bought out the original owners and then , basically , forced them out. They started a new company called RF Mogul. they import the direct drive ( rather than chain driven ) base and they have designed the upper dish portion , as well as the operator electronics. I have had mine since April this year, and have caught the satellite first time, every time. I had no end of troubles with my 4 year old Motosat dish. They had versions published to overcome issues and then a beta version, before the new program shipped to you. Under the new owners , they were a disaster , an probably why they are no longer in business. While you have to buy a new dish, it is far superior. They don't use a GPS for determining your location , which is required for multi-satellite providers. They go and look for 2 particular satellites and use that to triangulate, so there is no error. It takes a bit longer when you change locations, but I have always found the correct satellite, whereas, Motosat often took 2 or 3 tries. Virtually all Motosat dealers are now RF Mogul dealers, but you can google them and get the closest dealer. You won't be sorry you changed

Here is a recent exchange I had with a dealer in Florida. I was not aware that DirecTV had abandoned 110 and 119.

Motosat MHDTV (2005 model)
Jay,

Motosat in my opinion would be a mistake!
Your 3 head was using sat 101, 110, 119. Hughes now only use 99, 101,103, and 110 and 119 are no longer are used for domestic TV. All home installs by DirecTV are only using a triple LNB and not the 5 LNB any more. Therefore, RF Mogul doesn't use a 5, only a 3 head LNB.
This may help you decission. Try and call MotoSat 800-247-7486, or 801-972-8869, no answer, and it appears they are disconnected. Also there Web Site has been down for the last couple of weeks. I also understand that they had to move out of their building last week.

I can only give you the info., I'm the messenger.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the quick reply to my question.
I am inclined to stick with Motosat, since I have been happy with it for over 7 years now. Also, the base plate for the MHDTV is the same as for the HD-SL5, making the swap out a lot easier. Also, I already have a Nomad 2.
Regarding the RF Mogel - - it is only triple LNB, which is what I already have on my MHDTV. How do I get all DirecTV channels on 3 LNB's when they are using 5 satellites? That really confuses me! Doesn't the HD-SL5 have 5 LNB's?
I hope business is well for you, and again, I appreciate your reply.

Jay,

I am sending this Email again via my business Email address. Please disregard the earlier Email and Personal Email address.
You older MHDTV dish is not upgradable. It can not be used to get High Def. In short, DirecTV shut the old satellite down that your dish used. Because of the configuration DirecTV a new system was manufactured. This was solely driven by DirecTV and the manufactures had to follow their decision.
If you would like I can sell you a new HD antenna. Your choices are limited to MotoSat's HD-SL5, Winegard's system or the only one I am selling now, the RF Mogel HD antenna which is the only one that includes SWM technelogy. This system works exactly the way the Whole Home systems work in you home. RF Mogel is only a year old, but was started by the same 3 owners that owned MotoSat up until about 2 years ago.
The cost of the system installed is $1,895.00. Give me a call if you would like more information. I have not updated the Web Site with this unit yet, because I have been too busy. I expect to have it up soon. You can see the unit at RF Mogel's Web Site, CLICK HERE
Thank you for you interest.

Why do you need to update the software? Is it because Motosat sent a message saying there is an update? If your dish is acquiring the sats and you can watch tv, and otherwisw working fine, then there is no reason to update the software.

I have a MotoSat system in my Rv. I purchased a Nomad 2 controller five years ago. I have had it updated two times in that time with the latest being nine months ago and now it is failing to lock on again. This was the symptoms I had when I had it updated. Now due that MotoSat is out of business I have some questions, are my problems normal, should I continue getting the updates. and finally will the updates be available and who will author them. Anyone have any thoughts.

Fritz: I have a motosat/nomad combo as well. Installed via Matt in the other response. If you call him, he will tell you to send to RF Mogul for repairs; never had my old one even updated for almost two years, then had the lock on problem.
If you've tried the hard restart on the Nomad without success, then it would be wise to send into RF. other than that, I really can't help on the repair.

I want to thank everyone that responded to my post. I researched several companies technicians and what I found out was not good news. I can get my nomad two repaired and will perform until the next update is needed. They told me that the satellite companies change some frequencies that the nomad has to respond, in a update, to match that new frequency for further operation. Since MotoSat is out of business and if the satellite company changes the frequency, a new update will be required and our equipment will be useless. I am not going to spend any more cash, so I will have to set up a portable unit and find as signal myself.

Fritz,

First, check carefully all of the connections to the back of the unit to be certain they are tightly connected. Your unit is probably has the most recent updates, so the problem is more likely to be connections. I recently had mine updated by RF Mogul but found out that the real problem was a poor connection.

Try Reprogramming the Nomad for the Satellite that you need.
