Engine loss of power

Yahoo Message Number: 83202
I have a 2005 Inspire CAT diesel. Pulled into campground, engine died and would not start. Replaced the primer pump worked ok, but still the engine runs rough on occasion, especially if I turn the key off, unhook my tow, then turn the key on again to move the coach.

I would check to see if your fuel filters are leaking. I had the same issue last spring. Fuel separator was leaking air into the system.

See also posts on Hissing Sound - and maybe this also has to do with the diesel smell - and then on another subject extended warranty.
You might check to see if you have a cracked or warped manifold. My coach had a hissing sound - a different sound when the exhaust brake was engaged. Took it to Kenworth Northwest in Marysville, WA since we were at the Tulaip Casino. In addition to the different sound the coach didn't seem to have as much power. I was told the gaskets were bad - but showed the the emails from this group about 'cracked manifolds'. I had them order the parts in case it was a 'cracked' manifold. I then called Good Sam since I have an extended warranty. Gaskets not covered - cracked manifold yes. But we don't know until they get into the engine. (350 Cummings ISL) They started the repairs and found it to be a 'warped' manifold - and apparently a common problem - confirmed from the Good Sam underwriter. So that could be your problem - coincidently we also had a diesel smell in the back of our coach.
Not to Good Sam. I again called Good Sam - they said to have Kenworth Northwest call with an estimate of the repairs for approval. I left the number with the service tech to call - instructions were to fax the estimate - but the Good Sam rep said to call since they were backed up. According to Kenworth they called - when I picked up the coach they said Good Sam had not called back so I paid the bill. Later I called both Good Sam, and then Kenworth who submitted the bill to them. Good Sam denied the coverage since a call according to them was never received. I hit the ceiling - last word - I will receive some compensation - what I'm still not sure - but it is going to a review board at Good Sam.
I am a lifetime charter member of Good Sam - but not sure that means anything - I have had the policy for over 7 years - very few claims - so they are ahead of the game at this juncture.
PS - had planned on the balloon fest in Albuquerque - maybe next year.

I just had a call from Good Sam about coverage for our Allure. I expressed to the rep that I've heard of many claims being denied, that to me should have been paid. I think they sit at a round table and discuss what their going to pay. A lot like some health care ins co.
I don't think Good Sam is for us, but we may look at Easy Care or ACC. John 2003 Allure 30951
