99 Allure loss of Engine Air Brake Air Pressure

Yahoo Message Number: 83436
A while back I posted any fellow Allure early coach owners have had an Issue of low or no Brake Air. Update, Rush Truck Center here in Yuma First Replaced the Compressor Governor then called me to pick up the coach last week. The coach just turned 80k miles. The bill was 340.00 with tax. The servive writer gave a the truck rate of 100.00 per hour. I started uo the coach and still not making air, the Service writer appoliged spelling to me as I told him in my other life I was a Diesel Power Systems for a Cat Dealer in Miami. Said I was on both sides of the service counter. Well he got back to me and said he will eat the 340.00 bill and the cost now is a new Air Compressor with tax is 1776.00 dollars. Well he had my wallet remember whats in your wallet!! Just putting this on the Table if any of you have had this issue on your coach? Any feel free to e-mail me off line! The tow truck driver told me it mostlikly is a stuck unloader valve. Sounds like its in the compressor head Assy. Note the Compressor pumps about 10 psi only. I still hear from the air hose the two cylinder compressor pulseating. To acess this on the Cummins 8.3 removing the complete compressor is required to remove the Head of the compressor. I heard some of you like in the ISL Had compressor failure drive line to the Gear housing that Cummins did a 10 year warranty claim on. Thanks Ken 99 Allure 30356.

Ken,

Check out the purge valve on the Bendix AD-9 air dryer. I had similar symptoms on my rig. Replace the air dryer cartridge while you are at it if this is the problem.

Thanks for the reply, Just Picked the coach up yesterday from Rush Truck Center here in Yuma AZ. Reading the Techs report he did what you sugested and also beck fed the complete Air System with Dry Shop air for any air leaks and found none. Further testing showed the compressor Faild. He had to Remoce the Hyd. Pump from the Engine and drained all the Hyd Fluid then Removed the Compressor replaced with a new one gopt a 66 dollar core credit on the old unit. Re-installed the Hyd Pump and filled with fresh Hyd. Fluid. The Tech tryed to plug off the lines and save the fluid but did not work. The Bill Labor, Parts and Tax was a little under 1800 dollars. He Lowerd his shop rate from 125/hour Motorhome rate down to 80 dollars/hr. Truck rate. Im Installing on the Air Horn feed line an air Coupling so if this Happins again I can back feed the air system with my 125 psi. electric air compressor so I can limp in to a repair shop if this ever happens again. Drove the coach and cycled the Brakes and watched the new Compressor governor kick in each time and Thanks three years ago had the dryer cartrage replaced also here in Yuma along with checking ride height and valves/linkages.
